CAI Heat Shield

I have a C&L CAI with the plastic heat shield. I really like to look of the FRPP and Steeda heat shields (pictured below). Both FRPP and Steeda tell me that they don't sell these seperatly. Does anyone know where I could get one?

I couldn't agree with you more- the C&L shield is the biggest piece of flapping crap I have ever seen- I removed it right after I put it in. It just doesn't fit properly, and gives the intake a cheesy PepBoys appearance...

"NEW" C&L shield is now shipping with kits...

Hi,

I noticed your posting, and thought that I would share with you the fact that C&L has recently started to provide a new shield that features a thicker material and a more rounded design. It is the least that we could do after another company decided to use an EXACT copy of our shroud in their "new" kit.
These new shields are injection molded, so the wall thickness is both thicker and more consistent, which makes the part MUCH more sturdy. It also features a one-piece trim seal, instead of two separate pieces as used before. It is not fabricated sheet metal (like the one you mentioned above), but it is much better than the previous design.
The shields that we used to provide were formed using a different method, and it caused the wall thickness to thin out towards the top of the shroud. Additionally, with the old shrouds, we had to personally hand grind, de-burr and buff EACH and EVERY shroud that we shipped out. A VERY time consuming process. You would be absolutely shocked if you knew how long it took to prepare them. Unlike many companies, all of our products are made right here locally, so when it comes to these parts, WE have to finalize and prepare them for shipping.
If you want more information about this new shield, feel free to contact us by phone. I make it a point to not spend a lot of time on these message boards, so please do not start asking a lot of questions, as I will probably not be able to respond. The only reason why I spoke up is due to the fact that you indicated that you were unhappy with a certain aspect of our product. Since an improvement has been made, I did want you to know about it. Thanks...

Lee

I'm glad to see that the part was upgraded. The original part appeared to be vacuum-formed plastic.

Image of new shield...

I received a couple of requests for an image, so here is a picture of the new shield installed with our racer intake kit on our in-house test vehicle. And to Helicfii... I returned your call the other day, but the person who answered the phone did not know what I was talking about and said that they were "painters", whatever that meant.
As you can see from the image, the shroud now features a one-piece seal along the hood, but the real improvement is in the thickness and rigidity over the old shroud that we used to use. When others from this forum get theirs installed, then they can provide their opinions as to the difference compared to the original shroud...

LeeB99- Thanks for returning my call. Somehow you ended up with the wrong number ,maybe?

I spoke to someone else at C&L later that day and they gave me the scoop- so no problem.

Thanks.

It fits really well, but I was thinking of adding a flexible gasket along the top to make it fit tighter against the hood. Not sure if it is needed.

What do you think? Maybe go to Home Depot and get some insulation for small pipes and run it around the top?

I just got a CDC Shaker. Any suggestions on making a closed airbox to hook the C&L to the Shaker?

Not sure about a "closed" box, but here is how I set it up last year.

Thanks Don, I've seen yours and I'll set mine up like yours but I would like to figure a way to close it up. I'm sure it can be done but it will take more skills than I have.

I'm curious why you would want it closed?

I figure it would keep more of the hot air from the engine compartment out. I could be wrong, I don't have as much mod experience as others.

Personally, I think leaving it open to the front will allow the airflow you need, yet block the majority of the heat. Enclosing it too much might restrict air to the C&L tube. I don't think that much air actually gets from the Shaker to the air box.
