I was wondering what the gas mileage is like after a CAI installation.

I'm pretty decided on the JLT with the DTP tune and XCalibrator II... but I was wondering if the mileage suffers a lot after this mod.

Thanks for any input guys

I haven't installed one on my GT, but when I put one on my Jeep with the 4 liter straight six, my mileage went from around 15 to over 18, and throttle response went up noticeably. Felt like another 20 or 30 horses......

My gas mileage has actually increased slightly with my C&L and Predator Tune. It used to be exactly 3/4 tank of gas to get from where I live in Maryland to Pittsburgh. Durning my last trip (first with the intake) it was a couple gallons less than 3/4 tank. No need to worry about gas mileage.

Slightly better gas mileage here. With my driving I get about 10-15 miles more to the tank in my first week of driving with the JLT/tune.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I read that with the C&L and Predator tune that the mileage is actually thrown off in the computer.

Something about the tune doing that.

I was wondering if you guys were using the computer for your mileage or doing it yourself.

Thanks again... I'm now torn between the C&L or the K&N CAI.

After reading that others have had problems with the JLT CAI and the filter falling off... I don't want to have anything like that happen. I'd rather pay the extra money and have something that won't fall off or require hairspray or whatever

I was getting around 17 mpg combined b4 the C&L with C&L Predator Tune. After it went up to 22 mpg combined. A nice change however happened this weekend, I drove off a tank of gas and my MPG was 25, mostly highway though.

It makes sense that the less restrictive intake and the leaner tune would give slightly better mileage for the same driving habits...

Seems like Ford should be doing something like this from the factory...it would help their CAFE numbers!!!

Cool very cool Sounds good. I read that running the car lean might damage the engine over the long haul.

Is there any truth to this? Thanks again guys for your help.

We have the Steeda CAI, SCT XCalibrator and a custom 93 octane tune from Livernois Motorsport. Our milage hasn't been affected. We get 17 to 19mpg in town and have gotten up to 26 mpg on the highway.

I have the MMR intake, and mine went up 4 mpg after installing it (and the xcal tune). Now, after installing my functional hood scoop, and directing the air to the air filter, I gained another 2 mpg.

If installed correctly, the JLT's k&n filter will stay in place. Those who have had their filter fall off will sware they tightened in enough but I highly doubt it. I think its 5 people that have had the problem out of 100. Looks like User Error to me by just those numbers.

Mine hasnt fallen off yet cause I have had a lot of practice tightening clamps correctly.

Same with me. C & L Intake and 91 octane tune. Hand-calculated mileage has gone up. As long as you keep the tune rich enough to prevent detonation, then engine longevity should not be a problem.

Good luck!

Good to hear Eric... I'm new to modding vehicles with tunes etc. How do you make sure the tune is "rich" enough?

Imatk,

The tune that Diablosport provides on their website for the C & L seems to be working just fine. No pinging, no detonation, no CEL. I'd say use that and you'd be set.

I installed the JLT CAI and the SCT 93 octane tune (via Xcal 2) this weekend - something very strange has happened to my mileage. I was getting in the neighborhood of 18 MPG.

When I installed the tune, I had 4 miles left to empty with 87 gasoline. I installed the JLT CAI and tune, then put about 3-5 gallons of 93 in (had someone pick it up from the gas station) before starting the car. I started it, and it said 0 miles to empty. I drove about 3 miles to the gas station and filled it with 93. Before, after a fill, I was getting 300 and change miles to empty. This time it said 194 miles to empty.

Once I started driving it, that 194 dropped very quickly, 193...192..191, etc., even though I hadn't even gone a mile. I was showing 11 MPG!

Well, it slowly but steadily climbed, but it's still hovering in the 14-15 MPG range. This is a little disturbing. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Will it normalize again after just driving it and letting the computer get used to the tune or something? Should I make some kind of adjustment, like resetting the computer?

I also have to say, it could just be that I'm not that sensitive to it, but the CAI and tune really didn't seem to make that much of a difference. Some people described it as night and day, or like a bat out of heck after the tune - my car felt roughly the same.

No CEL, btw.

Would appreciate any advice/help. I'll eventually take it to a DYNO so I can see if it's just me. I'd like to get an "official" idea of how much hp gain, if any.
