CAI cold induction kit & Auxiliary fan
Hi guys.
I had installed in my O5 GT few month ago a CAI cold air induction kit + Engine remap Diablo Sport here in UK.
I have noticed that when the car gets to runing temp (temp gage middle) the Auxilary fan kicks in and stays on all the time til i turn off the car. Temp gage stays in the midlde, doesn't seem overheating.
I seem to recall the fan use to turn on and off while car was runing before.
Can it be due to the remap or because of the cold air kit?
As anyone felt the same problem?
Is it ok?
Thanks
Eduardo.

Your fan is designed to turn on, only at speeds 30 MPH and below..Once you reach 30 MPH and above, it's supposed to shut down..
Otherwise it would be in your best interest, to contact the vendor in which you purchased your tuner (programmer) from..

Depending on the outside temp, if it's cool enough..Then yes, the fan will also shut down, while the car is stopped..

The aftermarket tune you got just reset the temp. the fan turns on at. Instead of the factory set 214F, it now turns on at a lower temp, such as 190 or so. These cars will normally run around 190-195, even when driving down the highway. If the fan temps are set below that, the fan will run all the time. Check the settings on your tuner and see if you can adjust the fan temps.

Thanks!
Is there a purpose why the tune makes it run at 190? Not worried if it is suppose to run that way, or is it better to set it back to 215 if poss.
Thanks.

I have no idea why all the tuners set the fans so low. If the engine runs at 194 at 70mph with 30F outside temps, (like mine was tonight)turning on the fans at 190 isn't going to get it any cooler. It's all about the thermostat. It is what REALLY controlls the temps. I know all the tunes I have from Tillman are set at 192 or something. I reset them to the stock 214, 224. (low and high speed fans, respectfully)

Thank you so much Steve,
Will look into it.
Infortunatly the place where i had my car tuned is 3h away. I have got the predator hand set with me by i think you need to do it via computer set up.
Will have to organise a trip down.
Thanks.

Otherwise, I'll also re-set mine back to the stock 214, 224 (low and high speed fan settings) respectively.

Then in that case ! he needs to contact his vendor, and ask for a revised tune..Or consider upgrading to an SCT X-CAL II programmer..

I just heard back from Doug at Bamachips..He has the high speed setting set to turn on at 210 degrees and above.. And then set to shut down, when it cools down to 206 degrees, and lower...
As for the low speed settings..He has it set to turn on at 196 degrees, and above..Then set to shut down, when it cools down to 192 degrees, and lower.
Anyway, hope this helps out..

Yes...but why? What is the reason behind this? I've never seen my engine run cooler than 194 while at 70 on the interstate. It is getting PLENTY of air at that speed, and no fan will make it run cooler. By that token, the fans would run all the time. That seems stupid.

I'm going to attach his reply to my E-mail...Maybe that might clear things up..
Hey Rocky,
ON the 05 Gt there are two fan speeds, high and low of course. In short the temp in which it is determined that they are turned both on and off varies between the speeds of the fan. On yours the high speed setting is enabled at 210 degrees and when the coolant temp cools down to 206 it turns back off. Now this fan is enabled when you turn on the a/c too so then the on/off times go out the window. Now for the low speed fan setting on your tune is it set up to come on at 196 degrees and set to turn off and 192 degrees and I believe this is what is meant when they reference that Tillman has it set at 192.
Now, with a 197 degree thermostat like Most Factory Ford thermostats are rated at the above fan settings are perfect for this because when the thermostat opens the low speed fan will basically turn on and IF the engine has the ability to cool down enough to reach 192 degrees the fan will turn off as well as the thermostat will be closed. Most engines today operate at around 190-195 degree's normally, the more load the higher the temps of course but in normal cruise I normally see around 190-195.
Now enabling the fans to come on any lower than the actual thermostat opening temperature is kind of redundant because the fan will always run then and you truly won't be doing any major cooling differences. The fans are made to cool the engine but at low fan operation it's not doing enough to overcome the temperature control of the thermostat. If you want your engine to run cooler you wouldn't put a bigger fan on it but rather install a cooler thermostat to make this happen. Then you would further require more adjustments to the fans on/off times on both low and high speed operation.
One other thing, if you run the fan all of the time then it will shorten the life span off the fan. Don't take this as the fan shouldn't ever run or you hear it running a lot when you are stopped but rather the fan will turn off mostly when you are driving at a normal rate of speed that will keep the engine cool just from the airflow across the radiator and such. Most of the time once the engine has warmed up you will always hear the fan running when you come to a stop or have the engine idling.
Attached is a photo showing your fan speed table. You will actually see that there is even a MPH in which the low speed fan is disabled.
Thanks,
Douglas Studdard

Thanks, again guys.
Sent all this info by e-mail to "Litchfield imports power station" here in UK, and await to see what they advise. Presume they will have to set it with computer.
Eduardo.
