Go with the K&N Aircharger intake.

I realize that k&n doesn't require a retune. Does anyone know what extra gains you would get if you get the k&n plus a tune? I'm hoping it would be very similar to the others (Steeda, C&L, JLT, etc). If so, then it seems that K&N would be a good choice because you would have more options.

This is from the article Bill posted above.

"The K&N AirCharger also includes a dyno sheet so you'll know exactly what to expect when you install it on your Mustang. K&N promises 15.26 rwhp at 6,000 rpm, and our testing showed an 18-rwhp and 15-rwtq gain over our "no-tune" base numbers, which is outstanding power for a kit on a naturally aspirated Mustang. With the MD Motorsports tune in place, the car picked up an additional 3 rwhp and 3 rwtq, showing this system has just about maxed out the capability of the motor to ingest air through this size inlet tubing, which is slightly smaller than stock at points, and likely to keep the mass-air happy with a good air velocity."

Could you use the Granatelli slotin MAF with a C&L or JLT CAI and not be required to do a flash retune?

Food for thought - while some CAI kits may not require a tune, and give you a noticable bump in HP/TQ, it may or may not feel much better unless you do reflash the computer for no other reason than to tighten up the inexcusibly lazy throttle. Case in point: A fellow TMS'er (who shall remain namelsss unless he sees this and decides to post) has the Saleen Series VI blower on his car, with the Saleen tune. Less than a month into ownership of the car, he realized that while the car probably has over 400hp at the crank, it doesn't feel like it because Saleen didn't tighten up the throttle - they left the wonderful spongy lag in there. Needless to say, he feels slighted by this and has now taken matters into his own hands to rectify the situation by turning to JDM for a tune and a few other goodies.

Just some food for thought

Why would you want to do that?

Definitely the granatellimotorsports one is the way to go with the most rwhp gains of any cai that doesn't require a tune.

Why would you bother to add a CAI w/o a tune? A simple way to tap into some of the potential HP this engine has to offer w/o adding a SC.

You can always add a tune. I ordered the granatelli cold air because I didn't want a tuner right now. I'm going to be doing headers, udp's, and gears in a couple of month's ( when I save up) then i'm adding the tuner.

If I ever had to take it in for service I could switch back to stock with out having to retune. That would be my only reason for not wanting to do the tune.
When you say tune .... that would involve buying a tuner correct??
