Buying a used cai/tuner...noob questions
Hey guys
Im buying a used JLT II cai and SCT II tuner from another forum for $350.00 shipped...
I have a couple questions that would really help me if they could be answered, i tried searching with no luck...
He has 3 tunes on it for an AUTO 06 GT like mine and his code matches the one on my car so will the tunes work for my car with no problem?
Is there anything special you have to do in order to get a previously used tuner and cai on your car?
Also, since he is not unlocking it, when i want to put my car back to stock via the SCT II will it work? Meaning when i go to ford service can i put the comp back to stock for the time being, or does that only work with the car that it was first used on?
Downsides of buying used cai/tuner other then physical damage/usage?
Thanks guys
Dan

oh ok i see what you guys are saying,
so i guess my question is really, when he puts his car back to stock and send me the stuff, are the tunes already loaded on the tuner? can they be then used on my car?
because i keep seeing people selling their cai/tune saying that it comes with tunes so what is the point of doing that?

When use a tuner to put a tune in a car the tuner locks itself to that car and you cannot use it on another car. If you restore that car to the stock tune , then the tuner is unlocked from it and it can be used on another one ...
Ok got it..
So if he puts his car back to stock and "unlocks" the tuner from his car, i can use the tunes he has uploaded on it.
Sounds good, i actually think he was going to do that anyway but he confused me by asking me if my pcm code matches his, he said thats the only way i would be able to use his tunes. Or he said he can just unlock it totally without the tunes but then i would need to buy the tunes.
thanks

There are two things going on here, and you guys are using the terms interchageably...when they are not. Locked/unlocked and Returned to Stock are not the same.
The guy you are buying the tuner from needs to return it to stock. When you get it, you need to unlock it, since it will be VIN locked to his car. YOU cannot return it to stock, only he can. That means he reloads his stock tune to the car before he gives you the tuner. It is still VIN locked, but you can unlock that using LiveLoad, a free program from SCT and a USB cable connected to your computer and the tuner.

OK so now i really get it...sorry for all the confusion.
Basically, the guy needs to put his car back to stock setting. Then send me the stuff. Then i need live load to "unlock" it from his vin. Then any saved tunes that he has will not be erased and i can use them for my car.

I went for it, will be here tuesday. It is unlocked from his car.
Edit to original post of mine its actually a C&L Racer with SCT II not JLT (for some reason JLT was on my mind when i started the thread)
I'll let you know how the install went.

Recieved and installed! Everything worked great! Has to unlock it via live load and boom it worked! I cant believe I drove my car without this for all this time. Even my girlfriend thought it was incredible... thanks for the help
What if the PCM codes dont match up...what then? for example... I purchase a tuner at a great price with tunes... the PCM calibration codes dont match up so I know i cant use the tunes but i want to be able to use the tuner. How do I make the tuner compatible with my PCM/Calibration code? Is this something that Bama or Brenspeed can do... or do I need to contact SCT?
