I don't doubt you know what you're doing George, but deep cycle arn't usually up to starting an engine. If you have one that starts an engine, it's been my experience it will be necessary to keep it at 100%, 100% of the time.

Check into the Kinetic batteries, also. It may be available for a better price. The Optimas get a higher price based on name recognition. Any sealed or gel-cell should do what you need. I personally like using Exide batteries. Two of the smaller "racing" batteries run in parallel should give you a bit more reserve while staying at the same weight, nominally.

I had an Optima Yellow Top on my old Jeep and it didn't flinch at start up, even after doing some heavy winching in cold weather (it's a long story that involves broken creek ice... ). When it comes time to replace this one, dropping in an Optima will be a no brainer for me. I may go Red Top for the Mustang, though.

I have an Optima red in my 05 and one in my 66 mounted in the trunk, two blue ones in my boat, and a large blue one on my car trailer for the winch. Never any problems from any of them, best battery investments I have ever made.

Good luck, hope you can get what you need without adding weight.
