Bullitt Mufflers v. Ford Racing Mufflers
Bullitt Mufflers v. Ford Racing Mufflers
Does anyone know whether the Mufflers that Ford Racing sells for the 05-09 GT are the same as the mufflers which Ford installs on the Bullitt? If the parts are different, are there any real reasons to choose one over the other? I'm thinking about adding a pair to my GT, but I live in California so I'm somewhat limited in what I'm legally allowed to install. At the same time, for any mods I make to the car I would prefer to have the parts come from Ford if possible. Thanks!
By the way, if this question has already been answered somewhere in the forum, I would more than appreciate the link.

Not sure which Ford Racing mufflers you are referencing, but the Bullitt mufflers are available under p/n M-5230-GTB.

I appreciate the response! I was unaware that there were two separate part numbers from Ford Racing. But then...what is the difference between the two, besides possibly the sound?
The GTA's are made by Supreme Performance for Ford and the exhaust tips are double walled. The Bullitt also has a double walled tip but the inside is perforated. I'm not sure who makes the muffler. Ninosport sells both but the GTA's are only $300 while the Bullitts are $450. The body of the Bullitt looks an awful lot like the GTA though. Here is a pic of both:
If the GTA's are on the Shelby GT they're not much louder than the Bullitts. If anything they're about the same. I like my Bullitt axlebacks. They're definitely louder than a stock GT and are not as loud as some of the other aftermarkets. I like them better than the MAC's I had on my 06. I would get the Ford Racing 5GT axlebacks. They're the same as the Borla Stingers. Not legal in Ca, but it takes about 30 min to switch out, and if you ever did get pulled over for having loud/modified exhaust, just show the Officer the Ford Racing stamp on the tips, and say they were dealer installed.
I like my GTA's, but I am considering the new Flowmasters. I am waiting to see more information on them. As for cops buying the Ford Racing stamp, some will, some won't. It depends on the situation you find yourself in. If the officer pulls you over specifically for having loud exhaust, they won't care where you got them or who may have installed them. On the other hand, if you are pulled over for something else, they might not care at all. It is a crapshoot and it depends ont he agency who pulls you over, the circumstances of the stop, your attitude, and many other variables.
I agree. Id say they are about the same noise level. Both sound great. GTA's cost less.

Well, with having experience as a CA police officer I can rest a sure you won't be pulled over for having a loud exhaust in a mustang unless you have open heads. We're all trained in dealing with the Ricky racer Honda crowd. Big money with sending people to a state certified refferee. You have to change your emissions mod before the ref will take a look. A CAI is about the only legal mod on a Honda. Then again there are several that are illegal. I personally leave the American Muscle alone. Oh yeah, a good attitude goes a long way.

Having just watched one of our local street racer operations in action which was a combined effort with CHP and the local jurisdiction, I can say that they did not differentiate between imports and domestics as they rounded up over 100 vehicles and conducted inspections. And, they did service the Mustang contingency just as vigorously as the rice crowd. While many cops might have an affinity more for the domestic vehicles, especially the Mustang, this does not preclude a Mustang owner from receiving all the benefits their tax dollars provide. I just watched two F-bodies roll away on a flat bed last week for numerous equipment problems. Attitude, behavior, and location do make the difference sometimes though.

I agree with you on that. Street racing operations are another story. If you get caught up in one you are screwed ricer or not.
