I hear a very brief rattling when shifting into 2nd and 3rd when shifting betwenn 2-5000 rpm, that goes away after a 1/2 second. I noticed it happening when returning to 87 after running 93 for a while. No tunes just stock with kand n filter.
Would sticking with 93 helpe this? I noticed that it got better but didn't go away completely when i switched to 89.
would unplugging the battery and letting the car go back to baseline help out?
I'm wondering if what i'm hearing is actually pinging not really sure.
Thanks for the help.

mine does the exact same thing. it did it both before and after i put on my flowmaster axlebacks. had a 94 T-bird with a 4.6 and it did the same thing under load.
anyone know what could cause this? i think im going to fill up with 93 and see if it stops.

Are you sure thats 'pinging'.. after putting on the magnaflow system img etting an intermittent rattle, but I had my A/F checked and it's perfectly safe, I was assuming , in my case anyway, its probably just a loose bolt or pipe. Been sick so I haven't had a chance to check.

I get a rattle about 2700 rpm that lasts for a split second. It sounds like the exhaust pipe rattling again something metal. The best way I can describe it is if you had a metal hand held massager turned up on high and held it against an exhaust pipe. I had this noise while I was bone stock but it has calmed a bit since I installed my Flowmasters.
I'm pretty sure this isn't pinging... at least I'm hoping it isn't.

I had that frequently (had k&N filter too) before the predator tune.
usually during a 2nd to 3rd shift after hitting 3000 rpms. Thought it was ping at first- but I dont think it was - ping is very obvious you can hear it clearly with windows rolled up and will usually happen at WOT if you have it - 4500 rpms
I was starting to think it may be something like not depressing the clutch all the way... I have only had it happen once since the tune and it seemed at the time I maybe didnt depress the clutch to the floor as I goosed it from the stop sign and as I shifted 2nd to 3rd I was letting up on the throttle at the same moment.. just a guess at this point - I have been watching for it ever since...

I'm still a bit confused at to what exactly pinging sounds like, if anyone has a noise comparable to pining please post it, that'd be great. As I've mentioned before I hear a rapid vibration, not rattle, at ~2700 rpm. Some people on here have told me it's pinging some have not. It's just hard for me to believe that it's pinging since I don't hear it ALL the time at 2700 rpm and it is not "very obvious" like people have said. I guess I'll take it to the dealer and see what they say....if I can get it to rattle for them.
