I am curious if any of you are running the UPR Breather (or whatever other brand) tank on your boosted 4.6L? Specifically, are there any issues that would affect the tune/check engine lights. I have a 08 GT with an oil fed Novi 2200 HO. Its dyno'd around 530/540rwhp. I do have breathers on the passenger side valve cover/oil fill cap.
I currently run an old, old JLT...possibly first generation closed catch can and I personally think its garbage. Been researching it and people claim that it is too short of a run to properly do its job.
Just curious what people think from those who actually have one, or have done even more research than I.

I've been running the UPR 4-chamber catch can for over 5 years.. It's the best catch can I've ever used on my boosted 3v.. I first started out with the 1st gen JLT can and just as you mentioned, it didn't prevent crankcase oil residue from getting past the PCV hose connectors and getting sucked into the S/C manifold.. Shortly after returning the can back to JLT, I then went with the Bob's oil separator which was a major improvement over the JLT, but it did on occasion also allow crankcase oil residue to get past the PCV connectors and into the S/C manifold. I then decided on trying out the UPR 4-chamber can after reading all the positive reviews on this forum and haven't looked back ever since. The UPR does exactly as advertised by not only trapping crankcase oil residue but also prevents it from getting past the PCV barb connectors and entering the intake manifold, to begin with.. IMHO the 4-chamber filtering design of the UPR catch can is the reason it's so effective and is therefore highly recommended as far as I'm concerned
Thank you very much! That is what I was looking for, so really I don't need to get the breather can. Now you mention the 4-chamber diffuser one, however I don't seem to find that one. I see the DIY catch can that is the "new" 3 chamber design. Is that by chance the one you are using, or possibly a newer version of what you are using?

I've gone ahead and posted both an image and web link from UPR's website for the 4-chamber catch can.. You also do not need going with a breather can which requires disabling the stock PCV system.
The UPR 4-chamber catch can is a closed design which functions perfectly with the closed PCV system fully intact.. Although the description has this listed for 2011-14 GT models, I was able to install it on my drivers side firewall with no issues whatsoever. I've also attached an image of the UPR can on my 06 GT as well.
Gotcha, thank you sir. That is why I couldnt find it, since I was filtering for just our year vehicle. Do you have a recommendation on hose diameter? Few say 3/8 is fine, other opinions say at least 1/2. So, really what is the difference between our years and the 11-14 catch can....different snap fittings? I really appreciate the insight.

When ordering mine, I called UPR tech support and they recommend 5/8" hose diameter with 1/2" snap fitting for the manifold port and 3/8" snap fitting for the cam cover port which came included with the catch can. When placing your order, just let them know what size your manifold and cam cover ports are and they'll make certain to provide the right size snap fittings for your "08" GT/CS..
As for the differences between our years and 11-14 catch cans, is more than likely just the hose length and snap fitting sizes.. However, UPR offers custom made hoses/snap fittings for all makes and models.. If you look closely at the image of my car on the bottom, you'll notice the hose diameter is 5/8" with 1/2" and 3/8" snap fittings that fit perfectly.
That being said, IMHO you'll be very pleased with the UPR 4-chamber catch can

Thank you! Yea, once I sent that message I zoomed into your picture and saw it was 5/8. Well, you sealed the deal on the can selection. I did speak with UPR prior to all this and they recommended I call to place the order instead of online to clear up any issues. Thanks again sir!
Alright, I got it installed. I purchased the UPR Universal can with there quickfittings and 5/8 lines. With my shaker system..I couldnt initially install it due to the cover not allowing me to place it where I wanted it. After thought and mentally committing to modifying (cutting the cover) I got it to work and I'm proud of how it turned out.

Congrats, and I'm also very proud on how well your modification of the shaker cover turned out. The hoses also look really tidy and nicely tucked away in the engine bay.. Meanwhile, glad everything worked out, as the UPR catch can sure looks really awesome in your "08" GT/CS and also thanks for following up as well
Thank you sir! Just glad I got the can on period. The old one was just not doing the job. That was probably the last mod I will do to the car. Now, I just need to keep from breaking it!
Nice clean looking engine bay. You did a great job hiding that and a very clean looking install, Especially with the tight space on you passenger side, where I assume you are connecting!
I know the 5.0 Coyote gets all of its blow by oil on the passenger side and no one is getting anything in the driver side cans. Is the 4.6L different with that? Noticed @m05fastbackGT also looks to have his on the drivers side too. I am not too familiar with that engine. But, you do have a very clean looking modded engine bay, looks sharp!

Thank you, for the 4.6...the dirty side is the driver side. So, I run a catch can on the driver side and an open breather for engine oil cap and valve cover on passenger.

The PCV valve on the older 2005-10 3v cars are integrated inside the driver's side cam cover.. They must be physically removed by cutting them out with a dremel tool before adding an open breather to the driver's side cam cover port, unlike the 5.0 Coyote models which have the traditional PCV valves on the passenger side that are interchangeable/removable.. This is exactly the reason my catch can is routed from the driver's side cam cover to the intake manifold.

Yes, that is correct.. The PCV/dirty side is in fact located on the driver's side for the older 2005-10 4.6 3v models..
