Alright first I owned my 2005 redfire mustang gt with bassani axle backs, and bassani xpipe with compcats. Awesome sound, Nice and Loud not too much drone. I had heard some borlas in earlier mustangs and wanted to know what they sounded like on the 05-06 mustangs. Well I purchased the ford racing version from bleakleyford for 369 delivered. I now have a 06 GT and put these on it without any xpipe or compcats. I love the sound. It is a little deeper of a growl than the Bassani. Bassani is really awesome when stomping on it. Borla is for the person wants just a little lower/deeper of a tone. I personally like the Borla/Ford Racing Can Version of axle backs, compared to regular size bassani's. They definitely get loud but for the normal driving conditions nice and low growl with some drone. Both systems are very comparable. I just think the Bassani is a higher tone loudness to the borla which seem deeper/lower tone But still very loud. If I had the xpipe with this axle back it would be crazy Loud. I tell you what tho, the Borla/Ford Racing Version is a lot cheaper. So I would say I like them the Best. Hope this helps someone trying to make the decision.

Thanks for your writeup,

After a long debate I decided to get a set of Bassani axlebacks. If I change my mind, I can always turn around and sell them for FRPP/Borlas.

You pretty much hit the differences right on the head. They both have great sound.

I love my Bassani's. I have the Bassani axle-back and high flow cats. I tend to like a little higher of an exhaust note though... more racey than the lower, muscle car type exaust. One thing you are forgetting though when you compare the two... the Bassani's with the x-pipe will get you a good bit more HP than the Borlas.

I want to try the new Bassani SS mufflers. Of course when I got my Flowmasters, I had them welded so I'm going to need some new transition pipes to do this :/ .

Are you sure about that Ian?? Please qualify. P.S. I have the Borla cat back system. Borla claims 17 rwhp.

I never heard anyone say that any axle back could increase power.

Not the axle back. The AB with the Xpipe and High flow cats.

yah both axlebacks dont really show much gain at all from previous mmff write ups. But no matter which brand if you throw in an xpipe etc. you will see some gains. I was just looking for deeper tone than the bassani. I love them both. But for me, lower is nicer. Both amazing sounds.

I meant the Bassani mufflers w/ their x-pipe would get a good bit more HP than the Borla's and the stock catted h-pipe. But, if you add a high flow mid-pipe to the Borla's, there would probably be similar gains there. I did read that the Bassani axle-back was the only axle-back out there to actually get any gain at all in HP.

Ok-

I am considering going back to mufflers on my car. Shorty headers, high flow catted xpipe, and straight pipes is killing my ears.

I orginally had bassani...but am considering going with borla this time. But now I see Borla and Bassani both have an agressive/race axleback in addition to their original mufflers.

Anyone have experience with either of these? And....what would your opinion be of the sound with shortys and high flow cats on an xpipe be?

thanks!

Richard... I had to remove my LMs, too. Not only was it LOUD with headers and hi-flow cats, it had that annoying and embarassing trumpeting as well. Right now I have Magnaflows on, and they are much more tolerable, although I would like them to be a little louder.

Not sure if this will help you, but I have vids from the track a couple weeks ago in the thread below. That was with headers, hi-flow cats, H-pipe and Magnaflows. It sounds pretty good at WOT, but it's pretty quiet at idle (compared to the LMs anyway).

The trumpeting was horrible with the LMs. The Magnaflows pretty much negate it completely. If you listen real carefully, with the stereo off, you can slightly detect it in the mid-rpms at part throttle. But, it is hardly noticable at all. I'm going to swap my LMs for a set of Bassanis and try them next. But for now... the Magnaflows are staying on.
