As Chris said, there is only one type of CATBACK. Borla also sells an AXLE-BACK for a few hundred cheaper.

P.S. I'm not the Dan he's refering to.....I have Axle-Back's already thanks to Kahdir (he parted out a Catback so I could avoid the 6 week delay....THANKS KAHDIR!)

Glad you got your axle back Borla kit dan..yes it was you I was looking to help originally but glad you are taken care of.Please let us know how long AJ_USA takes to send you the kit.I am sure their are a few others here who may go that route with them if they can get the system out quickly (which i am not so sure of?).they are a reputable company though. They are one of my dealers too.

Sorry, mental lapse. That's right, you were looking for me originally. Thanks again. I was thrown off by the word "is" but that's because you didn't know I got it.

yes they are hauss1. i'm waiting on a reply on whether steeda has them in stock or not.

if you want borlas and can wait three weeks, Kahdir has special TMS member pricing. super deal. i want true borlas but i think i can't wait so if steeda has them in stock, i may go with steedas myself.

Ford Racing Performance Parts Borlas are back ordered beyond Halloween i read in another thread.

Guys, it's Friday, 9-02-05.

Kahdir says his stock is due in three weeks from now.

Steeda has 8 sets in stock. i can't wait so i will go with steedas. good luck in finding your borlas, boys. here's steeda's email response to me today.

Our axle back is NOT a rebadged Borla. They are made to OUR specifications by Borla.

http://www.steeda.com/store/-catalog/040-130040.htm

The Steeda axle back is designed to have a nice rumble at idle and screams at wide open throttle. However,

they do not have the typical 1800 to 2500 rpm drone associated with aftermarket exhausts.

I currently have 8 sets in stock and have another shipment due in next week.

Thanks,
Patt Kinder

I thought cat backs and axle backs are the same thing. According to MM&FF, you're not suppose to say "cat backs" anymore cuz some company owns the copyright on it. Hence the became "axle backs". Can someone clear this up for me?

A catback replaces every exhaust part backward of the catalytic converters whereas an axleback replaces just the over the axle piping, the mufflers, and the taipipes. The term axleback is used on 05s because of the position of the mufflers. On previous years, they were about midway between the cats and the rear of the car. Now they are behind the rear axle. The equivalent of an axleback for a pre 05 mustang would be just buying the mufflers. however, axlebacks are easier to install since they can be unbolted and do not require welding the new muffler in.

I have heard the part about some company owning a copyright on the term catback, but I don't know if it is true or not.

clockworks,

the cat-backs hook up after the catalytic converter/tubes. the snake up and over the rear axle and then are joined to the mufflers that exit out the rear of the car.

the axle-backs are just the muffler portion. they join the exhaust system after the axle and go exit out the rear.

in a nutshell, the axle-backs are just the mufflers. and the cat-backs are the mufflers, plus the pipe to connect them to the catalytic pipe section.

cat-backs are supposed to add neglible horsepower. they both sound the same. in my book, ya might as well save the extra moola. most ppl, myself included are getting the exhaust for the sweet sound.

True For the 05 at least because it has mandrel bent piping from the factory. For many other cars, the cat-back will net you some more hp. Also, (and probably partly for this reason) Borla offers an axle-back kit for the 05. Another reason is that Ford (very cleverly) attached the muffler piece with clamps
