I just wanted to create this post because I have seen some threads regarding Jet Performance Chip and people are buying them, I feel the need to warn anyone and everyone about putting one of these pieces of crap on their car. I had one on my 5.9L V8 Dodge Durango and after a year my transmission completely died on me and the shop directly attributed it to the chip (it was a shop I had personal connections with, had worked there for 3 years, they were like family.. not just out to make money on me)... but they told me to take it elsewhere to be sure and I did, in the end it costing me $4000... I considered taking action against Jet Performance but figured that'd just cost me tons of lawyer fees and even if I got some of the money back I'd be paying a lot of attorney and extraneous fees, but BUYER BEWARE, I would never buy from them again and you shouldn't either... take care

I had a Dodge Dakota, and used to frequent several Dakota forums as well. I never heard anything good about the Jet chips. It was all horror stories, or stories of poor performance, or stories like this just advising people to stay away from it.

My chip is supposed to be here on monday...I'm having some second doubts after hearing what you guys are saying. I'm thinking about sending it back and getting a throttle body instead. Has anyone had a jet chip on their car for an extended period of time?

Isn't this the same company that is producing the throttle body spacer that so many of us are buying...so is it the company you dont like , or just that particular item that they sell?

I'd like to know how specifically this chip upgrade wasted this trans. I frequent lots of car chats and I can say this. LOTS of people have issues with Dodge transmissions that do NOT have the Jet chip installed. It seems to be a semi-frequent issue with their trucks and some cars regardless of chip install or not.

I don't think you can blame Jet Performance. My brother-in-law chipped his Duramax Diesel pickup and within about 6 months he blew the tranny. It was not the chip manufacturers fault. He was putting more power to the tranny than it could handle. So you are right in one sense, buyer beware when modding your car. When you put a performance mod on your car it will do what it is suppose to do, that does not mean the rest of the parts can handle it.

Exactly. My cousin is an engineer for Chrylser. At one time I was looking at getting a pickup and he told me that only 1 of thier tranny's was good and that several others failed after 40,000 km. I can't remember which one was good but hey, if only 1 model was good that is not very good odds for Dodge truck owners.

...I wouldn't call a jet chip a "performance mod", but U can if U must.

If U wanna play, U gotta be ready to pay w/ anything.

But why waste money on a "chip", that is so low on the totem pole, as compared to others...Hypertech is the next one up, and so on...

as I posted on the other thread. I just pruchased the JET chip and it will be here Tuesday. I think the JET Chips have been great, I had one on my 02 V6 b4 i got my 05 and it was amazing and def felt a power increase. I find it hard to believe a chip could hurt a tranny, i don't see how that adds up. Yea I could understand if the tranny was bad or built crappy, then it could fail. But a plug in 20 horse chip? I can understand a SUPERCHARGER blowing a tranny if the tranny was not made to handle a supercharger. End of story, had that chip on my 02 V6 for 2 years with 55,000 miles on it and no problems! I love JET...

My company has had my chrysler product vehicles from Jeeps to intrepids, 1500. My company car is the only one, the only one, that I am aware of in our whole fleet, that has not had to have either the rear end or trans replaced under 50k miles. In fact, we had several fail under 30k. none of the fleet is modified, just company vehicles.

I have a 2001 Ram pickup with a Jet chip since the truck was about 9 months old. I have had no problems and couldn`t be happier with the performance of the truck. I also have heard of the stories about the problems with Jet chips. About 3 years ago I called Jet with questions about the rumors and a tech explained that it was mostly just rumors that were being spread on the web. In the 4 years I have ran the chip I have gotten better acceleration and my milege went up about 1.5 miles per gallon, up to a whopping 10.5 mpg. The Jet tech also said if I was ever unhappy with the chip I cuold return it for a new one. The trannies in Dodge pickups are known for not lasting very long with out the proper maintance. I have the Jet TB in my GT and the butt-o-meter says it pulls alittle better at about 3500 rpms and throttle responce is a little better. I will be adding a cai and a tune in the near future so the chip is not a option for me.

I know 2 people who have had dodge trucks and needed new transmissions (completly stock vehichles)
1 was a dakota sport awhile back, after about 30k needed one, and another friend of mine has a 2002 ram 1500, he had to get a new trans after 400 miles.
I would just stay away from dodge, LOL
