I have read every exhaust thread I could find, but I'm still unclear if there is an advantage to either getting SLP's or just having an exhaust shop remove the mufflers and install a couple of pipes and tips. Aren't they the same thing? Is there something I'm missing? Why would you choose one over the other?

I've been quoted $150 locally for the "muffler delete" and I get to choose the tips I want. (which is a plus since NONE of the kits out there offer the correct slash cut like what the factory offers.)

 

The SLPs are slash cut and chromed, you can install them yourself very easily, and are $150. That said, if you like the tips being offered by your local person, there would be no difference except for the "SLP" etched on the SLP tips - but, yeah, they're basically just straight pipes.

 

same basic thing!..Pick out some nice tips you like, or email me and I can hook you up on some of our Banks tips from work that I have on mine and have a muffler shop make you one!

 

The SLP's I've seen aren't slash cut. Looks like only about a 15* degree cut just like the Magnaflows, Flowmasters and everyone else has. A slash cut is closer to 45*.
As for the price, if you can show me where I can get them for $150, I'll just buy the SLP's.

 

they're not $150, they are more like $250 shipped.

Exactly my point. Cheapest I've seen are $225 shipped.

 

get ths SLPs they are polished stainless and larger than stock straight tubes, plus no freight, and easy to install

I know the tips are larger, but aren't the tubes themselves the same 2.5" diameter?

yeah, what he said^ and I think becuase the SLP tips are so freakin huge, it makes a slight difference to the tone you get. I almost went with the muffler delete from a shop, but I like the SLP tips so much, I had to have them. If you havent seen the SLP tips in person, try to. Once you do, you will know what we are talking about.

 

Sorry - my bad. Yes, $225-250... I was mixing up the memories of what I paid for my various mods (JLT is $150).

 

Aren't they just the same 15* cut rolled tips everyone else has?
