Best price for MRT CAI

Hey guys. I am looking at an MRT CIA, and it used to be 300 with the KN air filter if I remember correctly. Now on MRT direct it is like 320 and then 30 for the KN filter with it. So what should I do? Is there any place that is cheaper to buy it?

It might be possible to find better pricing than MRT but I doubt it. MRT's pricing is actually much less expensive that what the manufacturer (Street Smart Design) is trying to sell it for.

I sure couldn't find one. It seems that the only 2 outlets for that one is either MRT or Street Smart designs.

How is it any better than stock, other than having a opening on the box! Other than looks I mean. It seems most of the CAI kits are more open to air than that one. Looks nice, but just wondering if there is any diff from stock.

It's supposed to add 15 hp, gas mileage, and add to the sound. Boomer said he noticed a noticable increase in throttle response as well.


Boomer-I am nervous on installing it because of having to change the mounting of the PS reservoir. Any tips or anything and what do I need for it? Thanks

Tip: just make sure any hose clamps are not rubbing against the resevoir... I had one that had the release of the clamp...rubbing..had to move it, cause you could see it making a mark on the power stearing rez.

How is it any better?!?
straighter smoother pipe...cone air filter with an airbox (heat shield)
WAY better throttle response than stock..louder than stock (more aggressive) and more midrange power.... and no tune required...

Read Doug from Bamachips review of the 'no tune' CAI's and see for yourself what it pulled....

So you just moved the clamps that are included in the package when you get the CAI?

no no..the clamps on the existing hoses by the resevoir...

Here's a pic of how it looked at first....
The black hose clamp I swivled so its not pressing on the PSRez.

I'm used to it now..so it doesn't feel any different.

But I know when I first put it in....the throttle felt better, and the sound when I took it for a ride....nice

Hmmm. If you don't notice any difference, is there any point of me getting it? i mean, did you notice it being slightly faster, and the sound better?



i don't want it juste to be cool for a day, and then not notice anything. i mean, i've had my car over a year now, so i would think that i would notice the differences for a longer period of time.

Boomer- On the pic you posted in this thread, which clamp are you talking about, and where did you rotate it and where was it before? I don't know exactly which one you are talking about.

And you didn't have to locate the PSRez? you just needed to move one clamp?

no no, I'm just USED to it now... thats all.

In the beginning it feels WICKED, cause its different..but after awhile, you just get accustomed to the feeling...thats all.
TOTALLY worth it...

Look at the pic.
Its not a relocation really...more of an offset.
THeres a bracket (circled) that comes with the kit that lowers your PowerStearing Resevoir.
But it comes in contact with the hose clamp (circled) so I just spun that with a set of vice grips....just so it doesn't rub against the lowered PSR bottle.

Hope that explains it better...

Ah thanks. It's good that they recognized you would need to lower the rez and gave a little kit to lower it. thanks a lot for your time. ill let you all know how the install goes.

THE only bummer....is (as you can see) if you need at the PS ... you need to remove the CAI (well..a portion of it)

Not a big deal... 5 minutes, one hose clamp, and unclipping the MAF...
But hey, it can't all be perfect
Oh, and getting the old rubber-screw socket from the old airbox into the new one..without feeling like your breaking it...

YOU'll see what I mean

Awesome Pete!! Totally awesome!! The car's much stronger now and my FRPP exhaust sounds great! I smile every time I start that engine... and grin even more when I floor it!! B)

BTW... a friend of mine made a great recommendation before I installed it. He recommended I paint the PS relocation bracket black. I did and I think it actually improved the look.
