Almost everyone says stick with Ford Racing gears. Stay away from Motive gears. I am currently waiting delivery on my 3.73's from Blue Oval Industries. I have an auto. They currently have a sale on 3.73 and 4.10 gear sets. My price was $155+ S/H for the ring and pinion, crush sleeve, pinion nut, pinion shim kit.

Automatic- 3.73's seem to be popular. Standard-4.10's . Stick with ford racing.

Is there anything else you need to buy with the 4.10's? Anything to make it easier for the installer?

Why not stay with 3:55s for around-town driving? What are your goals for a gear change?

Gear oil, and depending on the miles on your car, you may want to pick up an install kit. http://www.brenspeed.com/mustang_2005/rearend.html

I have 10,000 miles on the car. So gears, 3 Royal Purple, and whats the difference between the bearing kit and the install kit?

Sorry for hi-jacking

But for around town driving, my buddy has 4.10's in his SC'd 97 and it is a blast!!!

Im looking just to go faster over all in a shorter time. If some young punk comes up next to me, I want to see him in my rearview. I just dont want to sacrafice to much for when Im doing regular driving. Pretty much its a toy that will get a couple thousand a year on it.

IMO - 3.73s are a nice compromise for city/hwy driving and they get the job done at the strip as well.

However, if you have factory 3.55s, then the investment for 3.73s may not be enough of a change to be justified...

I couldn't make the deicison on 373 or 410 so I went with Motive390-- A lot of people with little experience say to avoid Motive gears because they whine but I had mine professional installed and there is nothing to be heard.

And actually to tell you the truth, I actively post on 6 seperate forums including TMS and I personally haven't heard one person complain of gear whine of the Motives. But back to your question...I think the 390s are the perfect gear set because they allow a compromise of great acceleration and easy highway rpm. Additionally, you can run any type of forced induction application without a great deal of traction problems as CAN be found with 410s/430s

3.73s from 3.55s, you won't feel much of a change from what I read.

4.10s, day and night from what I read as well (I have mine at home, getting ready to install them).

Even the 3.55's to 4.10's werent that extreme. There is only a 400 rpm difference, and I didnt really notice it unless I was on the highway at 75+ mph, or doing some spirited driving . You will notice it when you step on it though.

Went from 3.31 to 4.10. Big difference, but now 4.10 seem perfect and 3.31 seem lame. I 've got a manual.

Here is the exception..... I just had Motive 3.90's installed and let me tell you, they are a terrific gear choice, however the whine is louder than my exhaust....... and I have on off road X with Borla axle backs......

Now since I didn't have my regular shop do the initial install, I have to take it there anyway and see if they can either fix the problem or I will have to choose between frpp 3.73's or 4.10's.... I really want the 3.90's to work but I am not going to deal with that kind of whine..... What a waste of money I have to deal with now......

Since your only driving the car a couple thousand miles a year go 4.10's. Might as well have fun for those 2K.

I've got 4.10's on my DD (auto tranny) and no regrets here.

3.55 to 3.73= wasted money. IMO.

no you will not lose the limited slip thats the differential not the gears. you will need to have the speedometer adjusted. If you have an SCT tuner you already have the ability to make the change yourself.

here is a question. does anyone know at what engine rpm the a/c compressor kicks off. something i heard is an issue with big gears in older stangs?
