BBK Tuned Shorty Headers
BBK Tuned Shorty Headers
I had these quoted by livernois Motorsports today, price was 1200 installed including a custom dyno tune. Livernois is telling me that a tune is required but everything i have seen says no tune is required for shorty headers....any thoughts about this?
Is a tune really required, even if it is not is worth the extra money to get the car custom tuned.
I already have the mods listed below in my sig

I had been researching the whole longtube and shorty header debate and from what I had read recently the shorty's will make better power and torque in the lower rpm range. http://www.mustangmonthly.com/techar...o_results.html
Granted all things being equal, the Lt's will post much higher peak power numbers, especially in the higher rpm ranges, but if the car is a daily driver isn't it better to have more power within the rpm range that the car is mostly being driven in as compared to winding it out to 5500-6000 rpm?
In the future, when I get back into the market to purchase another set of headers, I may have to give the shorty's a serious consideration based on this info.
The price does seem high, even with the custom dyno tune. I think the dyno tune is worth the extra money IMO, especially if you aren't sure what your fuel/air ratios are. With the dyno tune, you'll know exactly where they are at with the mods you have on your car....no guessing.

I agree LT will net more power...
but i already have invested in a mid pipe so I dont want to buy a new one.
I have also heard the shorty's will help to improve low end torque/hp.
As far as the custom tune, aside from fine tuning the a/f mixture is there any hp/tq increase that i can expect?

I think that price is ridiculous!! Install should be about $400. I think those headers are like $300...you do the math.. No tune is required... Tell them you want everything for $700 installed without a dyno tune... They will probably go for 8...

307.39 for the headers
400 for install
450 for dyno time.
I understand that a tune is not required...
I guess I am wondering if it worth having it done just to get the car tuned.
guess I am wondering how much better a custom tune is vs. mail tune from alternative auto.
