MM&FF had an article about the new BBK CAI and throttle body. The article stated that they saw gains around 27 hp and 35 torque. But it stated that a computer tune wasn't necessary since the computer automatically adjusts for the extra air coming in.

Doesn't this go against everything that we've heard so far about intakes and the 05 computer?

That's the bit in the whole article that REALLY makes me squint my eyes together. Something just doesn't FEEL right. I'm holding off on making any kind of decision until I see someone like Brent or Doug do a full on back to back test and post the results with and without a tune!

I BELIEVE in the article (pretty sure) they put the throttle body on first alone and said it got between 10 and 15????

(then stated with both together, it wouldn't be an 'even split' of which one did how much HP because both pieces were essentially working on the same thing - air flow)

The October MM&FF did test each item seperately and then tested them together for some VERY nice gains (assuming there wasn't something "fishy" going on...). There is another thread on the BBK TB were I posted all the relevant details from the article

Online or in your local area? I would like to purchase the TB and CAI then have it tuned.

MM&FF, Im pretty sure, likes to butter their numbers to look better than they actually are. We all know that the Spanish Oak needs a tune for any good change, even some K&N kits are tossing an idiot light.

They claimed 16 hp and 28 lb-ft of torque by swapping out the throttle body and with no other changes. That is complete BS. The stock TB on the '05 GT is huge. The twin 55 mm is roughly equivalent to a 77 mm single. The TB on the '05 is not the bottleneck. I would be surprised to see any gains at all with a bigger TB on a stock setup. My guess is they retuned the car after the BBK TB was installed and the gains were from the tune. MM&FF likes to stroke their sponsors. :notnice:

mk2001c,

You might be right. That is definitely one reason that I won't be buying a TB until I see independent shops dyno them!

The only thing I might disagree with you about is the stock TB being "good enough". I think it is WMS that shows a graph of engine vacuum at WOT. They show the vacuum levels both before and after the TB and there is vacuum AFTER the TB, but not BEFORE the TB. If that is the case, then the TB is bit of a restriction and may need to be bigger.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind when comparing previous year cars to the 05+ model. 1) You can't compare a twin TB to a single TB just on area alone. There are pros and cons to both layouts and one of the cons to a twin setup is that you have a much worse area to circumfrense (sp!) ratio on the twin. Which means even with the same area as a single, to total flow will NOT be as much under the same conditions as for an "equivelant" single opening TB. 2) The 05+ car is making quite a bit more HP stock than the older cars. It is moving more air. So it NEEDS more TB performance.

I can't wait to see some good, unbiased dyno numbers!

If you look at the article, it shows the stock TB and the BBK TB sitting next to each other. The BBK TB dwarfs the stock one. It is much larger.
