I just installed a Bassani X-pipe replacing the Magnaflow x-pipe that was making a strange ting noise and vibrating the dash due to the cats rubbing on the floor board. I first want to say that I am not bashing Magnaflow, I think I am going to get their axlebacks.

The Bassani installation was pretty straight forward and was much easier than the Magnaflow because it came in pieces and did not require bending to make it fit. I decided not to go with cats and just have straight pipe, our emissions check is going away soon. I also took extra time and muscle to tighten the clamps extra, extra tight because I have heard of people getting a strong exhaust smell.

I have only gone out for a drive once but man what a drive. The volume went up about 3 times. Sounds nice! I could tell that there is more torque. I have the stock mufflers on at the moment and it sound great but it could stand to be a bit deeper, that is why I plan on getting Magnaflow axlebacks.

Overall, this thing is great!!!

Note, I had a custom tune that turned off the O2 sensors on my SCT 2.

The problem I have with my Bassani x is that they rub the crossmember (is it the crossmember) near the axle. I actually wrapped this area with "header tape" to keep it from clanging around down there. I tried to move it around when I put on my Flowmasters but no luck. By the way, this thing sounds SICK with the x and Flows!

Have you noticed any fumes when you shut the car off? And it looks like the Bassani can be fitted to stock, shorty, and long tube headers.. or am I seeing things? I'd really like to get LTs and eliminate the cats... haven't decided on an axleback yet.

 

Well first off, I got them from RPM Outlet for $500.

I haven't noticed a smell when turning the car off. I have only driven it 2 times so far. I also can't say for sure because they have that new pipe smell from the manufacturing process that takes a little while to burn off. Also, for those of you that are getting this smell, make sure things are tight down there, all bands and sensors. I noticed that even though the bands were tight, I could still keep tightening several turns before they wouldn't turn at all anymore. And make sure that your O2 sensors are really tight as well.
You also need to check that all your pipes are fit together tight. There are slits in the pipe at the ends so the pipe can be crimped together. There should be no gaps showing in these slits.

 

Oh, and I think you can all LT headers if you want. Just eliminate the downtubes. You may want to call Bassani and check with them, they have great customer service.

You've sparked my idea to get JBA/Hooker longtubes, Bassani X-pipe, Flowmaster/Magnaflow/SLP axleback... I have all winter to decide too

 

First off, does anyone know if putting the comp cats on will quiet this thing down a little? With the stock mufflers on it sounds a bit tinny and high pitched, hence why I will get Magnaflows as soon as I have the funding.

Comp cats will help a little, but I'm not sure if they'll completely get rid of that tinny sound. It'd be great if someone had the funding & time to mix-n-match headers, midpipes, and axlebacks on these cars.

 

I'm running the comp cats with IMCO axle backs. It's way to loud for my taste. I'm actually putting my stock mufflers back on this weekend. I can't handle it anymore. I did run the offroad legs for about 2 hours. Oh my was that just crazy loud and obnoxious.

I have to warn you though. Once you have the offroad legs clamped down tight it's a pain in the hiney to get them off. I ended up having to cut them off, then I just put the comp cats on.

It's too raspy for my taste, but it does still sound good. I don't plan on ever changing anything forward of the mufflers simply because I love the sound too much the way it is. I think changing the cats would ruin it.

 

I think that you definately need different mufflers now to be able to appreciate it. It doesn't sound bad, but you are corrent about it being a little to tinny. Sounds great at idle.

Yeah it definately is to tinny and raspy. Do you think adding the cats will help? I may be a few weeks before I can get mufflers.

 

Some people (like me) have to change it back to stock for emission testing.

i did x-pipe and mufflers but kept the stock cats... i go to work at 6:45am and i think my neighbors might shun me if i took them off. lol
