I'm running the torque tune when I am not at the track, and I have to say the Torque is phenominal!!!! Then when I go to the track, I plug in the Performance and zip down that 1/4!!!

Is there that big of a difference in how fast the car is at the track between the two?

Thats what I was wanting to know. I doubt I have a good tuner down here in new orleans....I would like to find someone closer to tune my car...but I might have to make a road trip.
No, Doug is located in Alabama, in the central west side of the state, headed towards Tupelo, MS.

Tacbear was referring to another tuner that was located in GA.

ahh ok...man thats even better...im in new orleans so thats closer to me. I was wondering how he had gotten that name if he were in GA Any guess on how far of a drive that is?

Ehh I just looked at mapquest...thats far haha. So Can he do a tune if you had say a intake, LT, o/r h, and axelbacks...load it on the handheld and mail it? Or does the car have to be there to get the best tune for all that.

No, not a big difference, at lease not in my case (with an auto tranny). I have tested both at the track on a couple of occasions, and there was not a discernable difference in ETs that couldn't be attributed to other variables (change in air temp, engine heat soak, etc.). I prefer the torq tune mainly because it helps my launch, and it seems to shift harder... but that is just based on the Butt-o-Meter.

I ran a 13.4 with the torque tune a couple times at the track, i plugged in the Performance tune, ran a 13.2! There is a difference. The torque is meant for an everyday driver and to give the feeling at low end RPM. Then the performance tune is for WOT or higher RPM, that's where u'll feel it.

I plan on getting a K&N CIA and a SCT X-2 programmed by Doug soon. The reason for the K&N CIA is so I will be able to run it with the factory tune if I need to go to the dealer for waranty work, but then switch back to the custom tune the rest of the time.

My question is do I need to have the K&N CIA installed before I order the SCT X-2 from Doug or could I run the same tune without the K&N until I get around to getting it without any major problems.

In other words, will his tune be based on me having the K&N CAI installed.

Also, what is a good price for the K&N CAI for an 06 GT.

Thanks

After numerous internal conflicts in my head, I went with the K&N CAI for that same reason. I got my K&N from eBay for $215 shipped.

I just installed Doug's 87 performance tune and either I'm nuts or the car just seems to shift smoother (manual transmission) and run better in its acceleration smoothness. How is this possible I wonder. Is the stock factory tune really that rough? Initial impressions are that I'm very very pleased with a Bamachips tune.

I plan on running out the 87 octane in my car and then putting in 93 octane. I will then download the 93 torque tune.

I'm sure that Doug can give you a non-K&N tune of your preference, but if you are sure that you will go with the K&N then I wouldn't waste the space on the SCT for that tune. I would go with all K&N specific tunes.

For the guy from New Orleans, I'm not far from you. I found a dyno shop and SCT dealer in Metarie http://www.454dyno.com/html/about_us.html
and I plan on taking the car there when I install Doug's 93 torque tune for some pulls. I haven't heard anything about them...just found them on the internet. There is another shop in Baton Rouge http://www.thunderracing.com/
that is reputable and recommended by some people that I know.

Since it only takes about 15 minutes (if that) to completely switch out the whole CAI/inlet pipe, you could always do that before going to the dealer, too. So, I wouldn't let that stop you from upgrading to a different CAI... unless you really just want the K&N to begin with.

pjdami,

Did you have very much trouble installing the performance tune that Doug sent you. Does he send good instructions?

No problems at all. The instructions come with the pamphlet from SCT. Doug identifies the tunes he sends you in handwriting on the front cover.

You just plug it into the car, put the key in, scroll down to program, pick the tune you want and the SCT tells you what to do from there. Really easy and it is outlined step for step in the SCT instructions.

I'll have to admit I was a little nervous (as others I imagine) doing this by myself but it was a piece of cake.

Hey guys,

Ron, since you are so close if you want to drive down I would be happy to walk you through the installation process, no additional charge. I can even walk you through it over the phone, it's very simple and after done once you'll be a pro.

I'm sorry for some sluggish responces guys right now but I'm a bit under the weather, went from my nose to my throat and I'm feeling horrible. Still trying to keep up my good name though so please dont worry I will answer your email.

Thanks, Doug.

I live in Pensacola, and rode up there to get a custom dyno tune from Doug. Well worth it. An amazing difference in performance. I run the 93 Torque tune for everyday driving. It's got great off idle throttle response and pulls hard down in the low revs, good for street driving.

If you do this sct programing...and need to go back to the dealer. Can you remove the intake, put it back to stock tune so the dealer cant find out it was flashed?
