Axle-backs w/ little or no drone?
Axle-backs w/ little or no drone?
I have read through the posts to the point where my eyes feel like they are going to bleed.
I can't make a decission though. I have yet to hear any in person either.
I am looking for some deepend sound @ idle and cruising around. And that nice scare the kids roar when you get on it.
I thought I was going to go with FRPP but it seems they drone pretty bad w/ an Auto. around 2k. Which is were I am during ny drive to work and back every day.
The only mod I have is a JLT from Bamachips. (thanks DOUG ).
I may go catted X-pipe down the road but never OR.
Thanks for you oppinions and suggestions . Mike

Really can't go wrong with Borla or the Ford Racing exhaust(made by Borla). There is going to be a drone for almost any axel back, it just depends on when and how long it happens for. I went with Magnaflow on my V6 and have little to no drone, I have heard that the dual setup has some droning at around the 1500 RPM range though normal crusing is 2K and idle is between 400 and 1000. So you don't have to worry much about hearing it constantly. Still sound is a very personal thing you have to hear it yourself, I would start by looking at Borla,FRPP,Magnaflow,Bassani. I know Magnaflow has samples of GT's with their axel backs on their website. See this is where personal taste comes in, Some one might say "my Borla has a drone" and someone else might say "mine has no drone at that RPM but it does at another". This just depends on what you consider a drone. If you are the type that hates even the slightest drone then I recommend staying stock. Though no matter what you pick the drone will never equal that of a 4cly Honda with fart can on it!
I think it is going to be hard to have all your desires 100% wrapped up in a single exhaust. I've wasted money on a Borla on a 1996 TA, and another brand on another car, because they droned so bad.
Based on all the comments on this site, I'd 2nd the Corsa nomination. I've never heard a complaint about them, except they might not be quite as loud as you'd want. If I had to purchase an exhaust without hearing if first, it would be the Corsa.

Does the bassani sound raspy ( tinny ) or is it a deeper sound.
I have heard a Bassani w/ Bassani X pipe and thought that sounded good.
I have also heard good thing about Corsa. But they are pretty steep in $$$

I like both Corsa and the Flowmasters. I was at a car show parked next to some other 05 Mustangs; one to my left had Corsa, I had Flowmaster, the car to my right had Magnaflow. We all started them up one at a time and concluded that we were parked in the order of loudness. Corsa was slightly louder than the Flowmaster, Mangnaflow was not as loud as either, but was louder than stock.
Today at work a Miata was parked behind me. I started up my Mustang and instantly set off the Miata alarm.
I suggest you go to some Mustang roundups and listen to every brand you can and make your decision based on your own ear. Someone may even take you for a test drive!

+3 on the Flowmaster ATs
Very little drone at 1900-2100 rpm (auto tranny). Deep, burbling sound at idle (not irritatingly loud), very muscular roar at WOT!
