Automatic 05 GT making strange noises

I have an automatic 05 GT and recently it's been making a funny noise.

I can best describe it as a groaning/vibrating noise when stationary with the brake pedal depressed and in drive.

It will also make the same noise when driving slowly while braking softly.

In park mode, the noise goes away regardless of braking or not.

The noise seems to be coming from somwhere in the front of the car, not the rear.

What does that sound like?

Any ideas what it could be?

May be defective stall converter?

Its really hard to tell, those autos have so much going on it could be a lot of things, you really should take it in asap. The longer you leave it the more damage is done.

I also have an automatic car. There are no heat shields on the transmission. Only one are bolted to the car behind the cats. It is interesting it only seems to happen when your foot is on the brake. Maybe you are looking in the wrong area. I also agree with the others. If it is still under warranty...take it to the dealer.

Coming from a Ford technician, I would bet that it is in the exhaust or some kind of shield loose. There is not a whole lot components inside that transmission that will cause a rattle. It could be a torque convertor but I have yet to see any failures in that area. If you truly meant a stall convertor that you have put in there then I would not take it to the dealership cause most dealerships will void the warranty on the transmission at that point. If its all factory then I would take it in. If you have modified the exhaust or transmission I would try to pinpoint the noise to save yourself any hassle at the dealership unless you have a connection at the dealership.

Yea, I meant torque converter.

My car is mostly stock, just JLT CAI and various other minor things.

My car is still covered so I'll take it to ye old Ford Dealer soon.

Let us know what you find out. I have that problem except my rattle is coming from the rear of the car. Sounds like my exhaust might be hitting somewhere. Noise only happens when the car is in drive and the brake is applied( at a stop ) . Also, the noise gets louder when I turn my wheels either way(right or left). The noise doesnt happen all the time though, it is sporadic. At one light it might happen, then drive to the next light and it doesnt. It is driving me crazy. Trying to avoid the dealership because of my mods, but I might have to bite the bullet and take it in if I cant track it down.

These stangs are worse than old men - they creak and groan.

That's Ford quality for you.

Wasn't there a TSB on the exhaust vibrating against something? I took my 05 GT auto in to Kearny Mesa Ford (San Diego)...they knew what it was right away (another dealership said it was "normal"....Pfft!) and had a kit for it. No problem since.

It was a maddening vibe/noise. Not loud, just annoying.

I figured out my problem

It's my JLT Cone Air Filter vibrating against the metal body of the car.

I put felt on the body to prevent vibration but it's been raining quite a bit recently and i noticed the felt had moved and was almost coming off.

Any tips on how to solve this problem?
