autocross
I skipped FS with my 05 and went to ESP. Horsepower doesn't always make you faster. Knowing how to drive does. Year, make, model and modifications determine your category and class. Most regions/clubs allow "fun runs" where you do not accumulate points, so you could run in any class. Unless you are on race tires, you would be lumped into a street tire or street touring class anyway.
Performance and type of car. FS has been the home for American V8s pony cars for quite a while.
To stay in stock class the only modifications allowed are basically:
change front swaybar only
any shock with up to two external adjustments but the spring perch must be at the stock location (stock springs)
any DOT approved tire (R-compounds preferred) that that will fit on a stock sized wheel (same width/diameter/offset +/-.25in.)
Any brake pad (not really necessary as the runs are usually about 60 sec and the brakes don't have a chance to overheat and fade)
No mods to engine except a drop in filter for the stock airbox and no flashing ECUs.
Ooops, missed something. You are allowed to change/modify the exhaust system (cat back) to what every you want as long as it meets the noise requirements.
