Anyone Watch Horsepower TV, 'Stroking a Late Model Mustang'

They started with a brand new Alloy GT, it dynoed at 265 hp stock. They then proceeded to drop the engine and send the block and heads out to be machined. It'll get new cams, crank and pistons along with some other goodies they wouldn't divulge. I can only guess it'll make 400 hp after it's complete.

I saw it. I yelled at my wife to check it out and she said "look, it's your car, are you going to do that?". I just laughed and said I don't think so!

I'm anxious to see the next show to see what it puts down.

I was a little ****ed that they broke it into 2 episodes. Now I'll have to block out next Sunday to watch part 2. They dropped a lot of cash in that engine today.

I felt the same exact way!!! I was little bumed out when they took out the long tubes there goes any chance of smog legal. I am all for HP but not messing with any smog laws.

That show is like a thinly guised infomercial and the closest we will ever get to seeing redneck Bert and Ernie work on cars.

Yeah, I would have liked to see them put on a set of Kook's LTs with high flow cats. But like said above, they are basically selling products, not just doing build ups.

I just wonder why they went with a cast crank instead of a forged one.

According to what I saw, they're putting in a 5.0 stroker kit from Eagle, BBK pullies and longtube headers, Crane cams to go with some head work. It ought to be a nasty little bugger by the time they're done.

They made dropping the engine look easy, I was thinking if I could only lift my car high enough I could do that in my drive way.

All of this starts to stretch my auto knowledge so stay with me here, tell me if I'm wrong but even though this will be a sweet setup when done won't it be more likely to blow if they threw a supercharger on there?

Not sure if I'm completely understanding your question, but if I'm reading it right, the new internals mean the engine will stand up even better to boost should they decide to add some kind of forced induction. The pistons and rods in the 4.6 3V are thought of by many as the weak point in the system and are generally regarded as only being good up to about 450 hp (~8-9 psi of boost). With forged internals, there are guys out there making 600-700 hp using a power adder, appropriate fuel system upgrades and pump gas.

While there are differing opinions out there about stroker engines and such, adding forged internals to the 3V is nothing but a good thing except for your wallet. With the stuff they added on, they probably didn't raise compression too much because they'll still want to be able to run pump gas. If anything, they probably lowered it in preparation for boost.

From what I understood they were stroking the 4.6 to make it into a 5.0 but it had already started so I missed a few minutes.

I just found out the Stroker Stang will be back on HPTV this weekend or next. They didn't grenade the engine as I suspected, they just had to get the right cam phasers.
