I know one person here is using Precision, but I was wondering if anyone has used/heard anything about them. My installer heard they are all made by the same company. I would prefer to use Motive or FRPP but with the problems people have been having recently with their gears, it is probably in my best interest to buy the gears from the same people who will be installing them in case I need to have them exchanged or something like that.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I'm running Precision Gear 4.10's and they are whiners. My unbelievably reputable installer swears they are of the highest quality. I'd like to believe this, but after driving my car for 400 miles with a hovercraft in the trunk I'm feeling a bit homicidal and often want to after driving. I stopped in to see him today to come up with a game plan and he offered to swap them out with another set of Precisions when the "new batch" is available in early August. He said he would put in FRPP gears if I preferred. He doesn't think much of the Motives. However, it seems that most every brand of gear has been used by 05er's and with mixed results. I'm not sure what to do.

They are a quality company. I used 4.56 Precision Gears in my '93 F-150 4x4 with no problems. Its always a good idea to buy your parts from the same guy who is going to install them.

My FFRP 4:10's whine like a MF. FFRP said to check the wear pattern and the cut of the gears may be bad.

Conclusion: Gear whine is irrelevant to the ratio, brand, or installation methods. Whether or not someone ends up with gear whine is based on that persons zodiac sign and astrology only.
