These motors were the ultimate Ford Power plant, they were never put in a production car, but I remember a fellow I worked with bought one brand new in the crate for $6000 in the mid seventies. He put it in a 68 KR500 Shelby adding a flip top front end and a solid front axle. A straight line terror. They were conservatively rated at 425 HP but could easily put out over 600HP with a few goodies and a 671 Blower on top was the ultimate.
You're getting it confused with the regular 427 from the Cobras.

That engine was Ford's answer the Chrysler hemi. It was alot better actually. Being overhead cam it had alot less internal friction than the Chrysler hemi and it was lghter too. It's really too bad they never made it into production.

I know that an all cast iron 440 is around 660 lbs because I had an opportunity to weigh one a few years ago. I learned this when we picked up a 440 core for a project. We weighed my truck before and after we put the 440 in the box to carry it home and it was around 660 lbs.
My point is that if a 440 weighs 660 lbs a 426 hemi was reported by Chrysler to weigh just over 100 lbs more so according to that and your claim that the Ford 427 SOHC is 800 lbs there's not much difference in weight.
Regardless someone indicted that there wouldn't be a huge difference in weight between this and the 4.6 3 valve engine which is can’t possibly be right as the 3v is all aluminium.
I also have removed and re-installed just about any domestic V8 you want to name and after just having replaced the engine mounts in my S197 GT I can tell you that engine is a LOT lighter than any V8 that is all cast iron.

maybe the car is just sitting crooked on the pavement like the left rear is in a low spot or something causing the front right to rise up a little? thats my only observation i can guess... pretty sweet car though i wonder what it sounds like! does it need bigger rims?

pretty cool- all that car needs is suspension levelled out and some deep dish 'bullitt' wheels, and it would get my vote for one of the coolest out there 
the S197 has such a huge enginebay, a b429 or cammer looks right at home in there...although due to the weight, the handling probably lost a lot of its balance and a blown 4.6 might just outrun it...the boss429 Colletti had built a few years back(all alloy/injected) would probably be the 'ultimate', too bad Ford didnt build a Boss429 out of the S197's much prettier body ...
as much as I love the looks of the big old Boss429, nothing like a cammer...saw one for real just last week in a 427 cobra kitcar...and if its been built I doubt 60k is that far out of line- handmade headers, driveshaft, mounts, etc- the guy probably has that much in it.
saw a 427sohc go on ebay a few years back that wasnt even complete for 25k...and the bogus window sticker is a pretty cool touch

Not the first time this motor was put in a Mustang. Holman-Moody put these cars together. Can`t find any info on how fast they were, it must have been a real show though.

Even though it probably looks better than it runs (and who wants to be changing out points, etc) it sparks the imagination...is there a Ford alloy V-8 engine that has serious displacement, that we could "affordably" drop into an S197? A new version of the 351 or 427....there is no replacement for displacement...

The amazing fact is that the cammer fit into the engine bay without any structural mods. The only other cars I've seen with cammers were a 61 Starliner owned by John Vermeersch and a 74 Galaxie 500 brougham owned by a preacher from Delaware(???????)
