Anyone else feel a "boost" around 4K rpm? (Bamachip's tq tune)
Ever since I uploaded Doug's 93 Octane Torque tune I've felt a nice little boost in power at 3900 rpm under medium to hard acceleration. Is this normal? Seems to me this should be more of a characteristic of the performance tune.
Guess I'll have to upload the perf. tune to see what's different. Anyone who's uploaded both can you describe what feels different about them?

I get better mpg with the performance tune but the torque tune feels alot stronger, more brutish if you will. The performance tune is probably just as good but feels like it's smoother and power comes on more gradually.
Thats just how my butt guages the differance, I don't know what the actual differance is, never dynoed. I think the engine makes most of it's torque in the rpm range your describing, that may be the "boost" your feeling. I love driving on the freeway around 3500 rpm and gunning it, pulls really strong.
Been running the performance tune for a few weeks now, just wanted to see if there was any fuel economy change, which there seems to be an improvement. Not enough to make it worth the change though, I really love the torque tune.

I thought the torque tune was supposed to give you more below 3K? That's why I was wondering if mine was normal. Seems like all the power comes on at 3900 rpm.

Reminds me of my Dad's motorcycle, that thing has so much torque, he can pretty much be in any gear he wants, then crack the trottle open and he just takes off! he'll pass people on a 50mph highway in 5th gear (with me on the back!), just crack it all the way open and not even down shift, we just take off with a most awesome throaty roar Or, if he wants he can down shift two gears and scream off the RPMs

I remember feeling that on the Torque tune as well. I have since started using the Race tune and it feels like the difference between low rpms and rpms higher than 3800 is a lot closer. With the race tune the acceleration seems much smoother. That boost you are referring to kind of jumps at you at 2400rpms now on the race tune. Takes some getting used to but in the end this tune screams.

Youll have to ask doug the specifics. Something about slighty more advanced timing and the most aggressive acceleration curve. Drop him an email inquiring about it and he should send you one if you are interested.

the "boost" you guys feel is most likely the variable valve timing changing profiles. Ford actually went ahead and gave the new mustang "v-tec" of sorts. I know it is contiunally variable, but i believe that just means it can shift at different times.

its not CONTINUALLY variable.... its like you said.... can vary at different times. not smoothly tho, lol. You can see what it does on a dyno, and it is even more pronounced with larger cams. It actually drops power a bit then goes back to a little more than before, and thats what creates what all of you are feeling. If you lock it out, the curve smoothes out like the sn95s.
