Are they really that much lighter, I was going to get one, till I looked at summit it it's weight is 38LBS. I got a walmart one, there actually rated pretty good, think they are made by the same company that makes optimas if I remember.

Yellow top is even more 44lbs

I hate to be the bearer of bad news. The Optimas are not lighter than OEM. They are actually heavier than the factory battery. I replaced my OEM battery with an Optima Red Top and it's definitely a few lbs heavier. If you want a lightweight battery than you need to look into Deka. Deka and Braille (Very Expensive) are the same thing. Here's a good thread with information.

Optima uses "Spiralcell" technology which is better and offers more power.

Look at Odyssey batteries. Many models are lighter than stock, I've had them inseveral cars in the past, I have one in my Miata now, and plan to get them for one or both of my Mustangs this year.

FWIW I have an optima in mine. I chose it not for the weight but the fact its a maintenance free AGM battery. I work at a m/c shop and Harley's AGM batteries are some of the best batteries we've found. Last well over 5 years and actually put more CCA's than most of the high output "gel" batteries. They are miles ahead of any "wet" batteries, at least on bikes. Hoping I have a similar experience in my car.

I found this to be true so what I did was I bought the highest output Optima with the smallest footprint.

Last year I needed a new battery and reviewed all of the above possibilities. I decided to put the stock Motorcraft back in her for $100 bucks. It fits the battery tray and the tie downs plus the heat blanket. Also it had a 3 yr. free replacement warranty. Everything fit with no modifications. All other choices had issues. Even the Optima's.

Interstate is the way I went, same fitment as the ford OE, little better warranty, and I get them at cost, lol. (Well did)

I prefer Interstate too.
My dad's last one was good for over 8 years.
I told him back then that they lasted well.

Will the small difference in weight really be noticeable? I hope the 5 lbs. I gained over the holidays doesn't hurt the handling of my Mustang!

I got a red top Optima. It really spins the starter fast with 800 cranking amps.

Stick with a name brand battery and you will be good. Optima batterys are great, but they are also pretty pricey.

I went with the WalMart duralast for $43 bucks. A little better than stock on CCA and warranty to boot! Highly recommend to replace OEM at reasonable cost.
