I was in the process of ordering Steeda's CAI - when I came across AFE's stage 2 CAI - which boasts an increase of up to 50 hp. The set-up changes out the whole intake system not just the filter. I wanted to know if anyone is familiar with this set-up since I'm not & was wondering if it's worth the xtra $100 or so compared to Steeda & K&N.

I doubt that it would give you 50 hp.

Keep in mind that it says "up to 50". That means anywhere between 0 and 50, and without a tune, closer to 0. Good luck with your decision.

130 ... hmmm... only in my dreamz -- barely broke 100 on the frwy last night -- didin't notice any flex or drag --- but then I let off --- last thing I wanted was for my new hood to go airborne. I think it'll hold up good - but definitely would be safer w/ the pins.

speaking of pins... you come up w/ any ideas yet??

I'll let you know as soon as I get my GT next month. They say on the product bulletin that it is 19hp & 22tq at a normal driving range of 4500 rpm. I called and that is supposedly with a bone stock Mustang GT.

AFE makes great kits.. I have used many in the past and just sold my new AFE kit to softbatch since I had no need for it.He will be able to give you an opinion on it soon.50 hp..NO, but certainly along the lines with the other companies and their kit is top notch!

if it increases performance as wellas steeda & K&N i might consider it -- I like the clean look & the fact that the kit rplaces the whole intake tract. my concern is that there's no mention of having to flash & tune - although K&N makes no mention of it either. I'll prolly do more investigating b4 making a decision.

Yeah thanks on the good deal Chris.

I am hoping that it will be a little more powerfull than the Steeda and CnL because of the high-grade plastic tubing instead of stock or aluminium tubing. Hopefully as much power as the JLT. If there is a difference. MODernEnginuity should have a comparo on a bunch of intakes soon.

The gains of 50hp are not specifically mentioned for the 05 mustang, just for the kit in general. Which means there is a car out there, or an engine out there, that they tested with a super restrictive (or factory) intake and theirs, and received a 50 +/- hp gain.

exactly what FAZM says.. And I can assure you it is a Diesel application where you could gain the 50hp

They claim 8hp and 9 ft/lb here and re-dyno'd it here with 19hp and 22 ft/lb results.

WOW! they're all over the place w/ their numbers // so what changed between the initial dyno & the 2nd go 'round??? -- I'm not sure about that brushed aluminum cover either // looks like it would restrict air flow -- especially w/ my new hood.

Not sure what you have decided, but I just installed the AFE stage 2 on my 2005. There are 2 things that I noticed after install. 1) A louder growl out of the stock exhaust, and a better response to the accelorator.

I did like the fact that I didn't need any additional tools/equipment to re-calibrate the computer. Just disconnected the battery while installing it. Not sure as too what the actual HP is now that it's installed as I don't have the money to pay for a dyno.

But should you decide to go with this, take note that the instructions are not exact. Yes you do need to remove everything they talk about. But install the air filter housing first. Also there is a bolt that is just above the driver side headlamp that needs to be removed. Once you install the housing the rest is a breeze.

IMHO if you introduced enough additional air into the engine to make even 10 hp you would end up with a CEL and limp mode. just removing the filter from the JLT adds enough extra air to lean the F/A out enough to produce these problems. No way that CAI can make good power with out a tune. Now with a tune...........well thats another story. With the 05 either a Diablo or Xcallibrator(2) should be everyones first mod. everything works better with a tune. just my $.02

well I noticed on the one link it was like 320 bucks, the other link it was like 427, who are they kidding. I guess with a shiny piece of metal on top of it, it is worth a ton more than any other cai. I dont know if its worth that kind of money. I will spend it somewhere else first. good luck.

You also have another to choose from
http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index.php?sh...ic=27161&hl=cai

Looks very interesting, especially once they have released the radiator cover which will direct flow to the cai from grill area. Good luck in whatever you choose.
