Thumbs up Aeroforce tech INTERCEPTOR gauge install

Just recently installed an Aeroforce Tech - my stock Saleen boost gauge crapped out on me and I figured I would go with something with a bit more capability and functions that just a simple boost gauge. There is a list of 30+ different things you can monitor (ambient temp, fuel pressure, fuel pump duty cycle, coolant temp, knock sensor, etc etc.... ) You check the ones you want in the set-up menu, then when the car is running, you simply use the control button for the display (there are TWO displays so you can have two items displaying at any time) and you can scroll through each and every value.
[also can record data while driving, read error codes, do estimated 1/8 and 1/4 mile times, program the two red lights at the top pf the gauge as a shift light....]

The Interceptor plugs right into the OBD port under the dash and even gets its power from there. Since the car was NOT boosted in stock trim (like a 03/04 Cobra, say) I needed to install a 2 bar MAP sensor for the boost - this registers through one of two analog inputs that plug into the bar of the Interceptor gauge.

The only reason it took a while was being neat and running the wiring behind the radio (since I was using the Saleen dash gauge pod) and I also had to modify a mounting bracket to get the Interceptor to fit snug in the gauge pod, since the Interceptor is only half the length of the stock Saleen gauges.

If you have never done it, pulling the center console and the front of the waterfall panel, and even the radio is really quite easy.

Remove the console lid

Remove shift **** and shifter boot

You have to gently 'wiggle' the console up and over the e-brake handle - it is tight but will come off easily

The two dash side panels will snap right out when pulled towards you
The two

6 10mm bolts and you can pull the waterfall panel away from the dash - up top there are three electrical connectors to unplug

Down bottom you have to worry about the connectors for the environmental controls

4 more 10mm bolts and the Shaker unit cane be removed.
Then I removed the Saleen pod and got to work

Stock Saleen gauge

Interceptor

You can see the difference in size between the gauges so I had to use the bracket that came with the Interceptor, and modify it to hold the Interceptor firmly in the pod

OBD port plug and the connector for the gauge

OBD port wire plugs in

Wiring harness for the analog hookups - one of these wires will run to the MAP sensor in the engine bay

I ran extra wire to the other two in case I need to use them in the future - I have the coils of extra write tucked up under the dash so I won;t have to pull the center console again.

Remounting the Shaker unit

Running the wiring through the wheel well (running it in the loom when I already have the Autometer gauges wired on the A pillar)

MAP sensor mounted to the firewall

For 5v power for the sensor, I tapped into the throttle position sensor power line and ran my line along the passenger side of the engine

splicing into the power line

Wiring coming up from wheel well

Tapped the vacuum line on the driver's side

Power up

Really happy with the gauge - I had an issue with the gauge not staying powered up right after install and Todd at Aeroforce helped me out by checking it after I sent it back to him (gauge was fine but I needed a different OBD port wire - sent me the gauge back with the correct wire and reimbursed my shipping)

This is definitely one nice product

Those look great. I wish I had a supercharger to give me a reason to install some.

Wow nice write up! I've had the dual Aeroforce guages for about 6 months or so now and love them. I actually think I'm gonna just sell my Autometer cobalt gauges and move the Aeroforce over into the SOS pod where the cobalt's are now.

**** that's a lot of work, but good write up. Glad I went with the SOS pod, much simpler install.

Hey Dave on that map sensor, there's three wires- one is power, another goes to the gauge- is the 3rd one just a ground I presume?

yeah - ground wire that I simply ran right to one of the holes right there at the edge of the engine bay by the wipers.

Hey man, how's this working for you?

Have you thought about adding an air/fuel meter and hooking it up?

Its working out great Tom
Love the gauge

I can also say that the 1/4 mile estimation time function (as long as you have minimal wheel spin off the line) is RIGHT on the money based on comparison with track results.

I have contemplated an A/F - figured I would swap out with my coolant temp gauge that sits in the first position in my autometer a pillar pod. But haven't gotten to the point where I really want to go through with that install yet (or the pressing need that I require that gauge right now)

Thanks man!

Hey Tom - haven't heard anything new about that and I haven't been to the Aerforcetech website in a while... I thought that kit was close to coming out though?

Hey Dave!

I just wired up a 2 bar MAP sensor and a fuel pressure sensor and tied them into one of my Aeroforce guages..... works like a charm!!!

Nice writeup, I just hate wiring, so I guess I'll have to have someone do it for me. Looks great with the gauges lit up like that!
