The driver's side muffler assemby hangs about 1/2" lower than the passenger side. I tried to loosen the u-bolt connecting the muffler to the exhaust pipe and rotate the muffler, but it did nothing to raise or lower it. The brackets with the rubber pads that the muffler hangs on are super tough, and I don't think I have the equipment to bend them.

Is there some easy way to lower the whole muffler that I'm not aware of? If it were only 1/4 inch, I probably would let it go, but 1/2 inch screams "I need adjusting!!!"

Help!!!

You might try loosening the clamps just upstream of the mufflers and see if there's any adjustment there. Maybe sliding it in or out will help. Mine were pretty well matched from the factory.

That's the U-bolt I tried. Sliding the exhaust pipe in or out didn't make any difference, that's why I'm stumped. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Looks like you'll have to bend the mounting "arms" then. I didn't see any U-bolts close to the mufflers, but maybe we're talking about the same things.

Mine is the same way. I have also noticed many other GTs on which the driver's side is lower than the passenger side. When I was younger, I would have worried about it and fixed it right away. I'll adjust it some day.....maybe. The car runs like a absolute banshee, which is what is important to me. Just handled an M3 today who thought he'd get the jump on the old stang. :nono:

I had mine adjusted by the dealer. Had it in for something else and asked them to fix it. Not sure exactly what they did, but the work order said 'loosened and retighened all exhaust mounts to make tail pipes equal on both sides'.

Ok, the general concensus is to bend the brackets. I'll work on removing the muffler and bending the rear mounting arm. I should be able to get a good enough grip on it with visegrips.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I can't see leaving it at the dealership for a day for something this minor, but I wanted all of your opinions before I did any bending. Thanks!

Just do it in very small amounts. It does not take much to move the tail pipe down 1/2". My recommendation is to use a rubber mallet and give it 1-2 good whacks then re-mount. Repeat where necessary. Just make sure you hit it on the same line as the bracket or you may change the left-to-right alignment.

[SIZE=1]I painted the rear of mine with black BBQ grill paint so you can no longer see them under the car. Never did like seeing mufflers.
