I got my Escort GTimer GT2 today, and had only a little time to play with it.

I ran down to my secret test strip, which is a fairly level road with just over a 1/4 mile of run space. I pre-ran it to make sure there was nobody around to make it unsafe for body or license, and did a quick two-way run.

On both runs I shut down right around the 1/4, and it affected my 1/4 mile speeds. I'm not sure that this area has enough room for me to run the 1/4 safely, so I may not do it again there.

My first run was 13.72@88.3 the second was 13.8@93.3. Like I said, I shut down early and my speeds reflect that. Needless to say, it looks like this is a mid-to-low 13 second car. My zero-60 times on those same runs were 5.07 and 5.2 respectively. 60ft times were in 2.1 sec for each run, I launched really softly at under 2000rpm, not aggressively at all.

My max speed on each run was 98.8.8 and 99.7. If I had kept on it through the quarter in each run instead of backing off, my guess is that the runs would have been maybe averages 13.6@99mph.

The 2nd run is slightly uphill vs. the first slightly downhill. It's pretty darn close to level, though.

Now I need to order the optional software and cable so I can download and analyze these runs in more detail!

BTW, I am running an SCT 91 octane tune and HC removal right now.

I seem to get a very strong launch at 2400 rpm, it's touchy though, can't be over/under much.

5spd manual.

At 2400, I light my tires unless I slip the clutch pretty liberally. I'm going to use the GTimer to play with my launches, more so after I get the cable/software so I can really see the details of the launch.

Does the unit provide other distance data....like 1000' ET?
If it does, I can tell you what the 1/4 mile ET would have been.

The GTimer can be bought directly from Escort (the guys who make radar detectors).

http://www.gtimer.com/

My 1000 ft times were 11.43 and 11.55 respectively.

The unit can also be calibrated with various data like the weight of your car in order to do estimates of peak HP. It cannot do torque because, unlike the similar product from GTech, the GTimer doesn't read your power supply for spikes to guess the engine RPM.

There are stock values for how quickly it starts to measure when you start, such as what vlue in G before it is considered a start, and a way to adust for a staging distance. I haven't changed those from the factory.

In order to tune the unit to most closely match those from a drag strip, they tell you to adjust the rollout. They have two rollout figures, a Speed rollout and a 1/4mile rollout. One only affects speed results, one only affects distance results. You use those to tune to your 60ft and some of your speed results vs. a track. By default the rollout is set to 12".

Bottom line is that the numbers I quoted may NOT be what I would get at the track, but they are close, and this unit produces accurate and reproducible results. So it can be used to test differences in power or weight modifications.

I'll probably try and get some more numbers at lunch time (grin).

Hope to be able to raise launch rpm considerably when I come up with a better set of rear tires/wheels, next project. The G-Timer looks like fun. Where do you plan on mounting it? I see how it mounts now, I'll spend some time reading up on this!

It must be mounted perpendicular to the road, i.e. don't tilt it towards the driver. It uses only 2 accelerometers vs. the GTech's 3, so this is the one caveat needed. The GTEch units use 3, so they are able to calibrate and adjust for alignment of the unit. But the price on this one is right (grin) and from what I've read, some magazines did reviews and found this one to more accurately reflect trap speeds.

Then again, maybe it was more accurate with THEIR car and THEIR driving style, and it wouldn't be for mine.

Mine was a 40th birthday present from my dad, replacing his offer of a car cover. As such, I'm not going to complain about GTech vs GTimer, and I'll just enjoy this product for what it does (grin).

That really sounds awesome. Maybe when I finally get rid of the v6 I'll pick one up and see how it does.

I have a GTech and I would concur on the trap speed comment. I have found the times within +/- .1 but the mph is usually 2-4mph on the high side. Still, these toys are good to use as a comparison model.

I might have to drive down to circuit city and pick one up

Anyone know what other places in Houston to pickup one ? Either the G-Tech Pro or the G-Timer ?

Based on the info you posted, Comparison run #1 is your best. Based on your lower 60ft time, I would hazard to say that you would have run a 13.4 or 13.5 1/4 mile time.
