I am looking at their loudmouth, boom tube and other so called muffler delete set ups. My question is aren't these essentially the same as me having the mufflers cut off and having 4" rolled tips put on? Just wondering because I have been quoted 200 for having the car straight piped with 4 inch tips applied vs the 370 for slp loud mouth axle backs. Are the slp's not straight pipe, just wondering since they are 370. Just want to know the difference between American muscle set ups vs straight pipe from shops. Thanks guys.

Good question and this is more or less identical to having someone hack off your factory tail section and having a straight pipe welded up but the finished product with either the SLP Loudmouth or Boomtube will look that much better.

The SLP's are definitely straight through just like the BoomTubes but their dimensions will differ slightly. While both are made of 304 Stainless the tips on the SLP will be 3.5", in comparison to 4" on the Mac. Your piping on the SLP would also be 409 in comparison to the Mac's 309. For what it's worth having been in and out of shops over the past few years I would shoot for a brand new system as it's going to make the rear of the car look that much cleaner than having a shop pull some pipe off the rack/floor and have it thrown on the car.

If you have a good shop, they can do a nice job for a lot less as you have seen. The '07 GT Vert I had, I did just that. A 4" x 18" long tip in place of the stock muffler. It sounded wicked. I spent $60 back when that was done. I feel the same thing on the muffler deletes that are out there. I will be doing something similar to my '08 GT Vert soon too.

Just because it does not come from a major parts supplier does not mean that it cannot be done right. Not knocking anyone's business or products (they do get plenty of my money), just saying that sometimes there are good options that can look, sound, and function as well as the item they sell.

You do realize that the Boom Tubes have louvers in them to reduce the popping and crackling associated with running straight pipe? There is def a difference between straight pipe and the boom tubes.

 

Having a shop make a muffler delete isn't a bad idea. You'll save some money and when you realize the drone is driving you insane (I had SLP LM's) and it will drive you insane, you'll spend some cash for Pypes Bomb pipes. Loud but slightly baffled which cuts down on the drone.
