while reading that Ford recommends Regular 87 Octane fuel for the Mustang GT, i'm left wondering here, as in Dubai where i currently live, we only have 2 types of fuel..
95 octane (super)
98 octane (special)
all unleaded
am i in for a good treat?
i realize a higher octane rating is only needed for higher compression engines, but with these being the only available options i'm curious whether i'd be needing a tune to keep the engine happy.
all the vehicles sold here are made with special "gulf export" specifications, such as a larger radiator to survive the heat in here, so i wonder if they're already tuned for this

And now the question we've all been waiting for...
How much is gasoline in Dubai?

oil-marketing companies approached the government of the UAE, demanding 100 per cent increase in the oil prices in one shot, though the government approved only a 50 per cent rise in two phases.
Last week, a 31.5% hike was announced. The remaining increase would be made in the second phase, beginning early next year.
Super 98 is $1.80 USD a gallon and rising, i know it's not close to being as bad as it is in the US and Canada now, but for Dubai, that's still plenty :S

I would be willing to bet that your gas is rated based on the research method only. In the US, they use the research method averaged with the motor method (literally (R+M)/2!) to calculate octane ratings. Research method is always higher than motor method (usually by about 10 points), so your octane ratings will be about 5 points higher than what is on the pump in the US.
Or, your 95 is equivilent to US 90 and your 98 is equivelent to US 93. Basically, it's the same gas all the low altitude folks are pouring into their cars in the US, so don't worry about it. (us folks at high altitude can only get US 91 gas as the best!)
And you don't "need" a tune for high octane. If you did have true "high" octane fuel, then you could use a tune to advance spark advance a bit more and make a little bit more power. But the car would run perfectly with the regular tune.

I thought it would've been cheaper. There's so much regulation and tax in US gasoline that raises the price, I figured you would've been under $1.50 US.

and as noted earlier, we'll be over the $2 USD mark first thing next year :\

Guys are asking you about the gas prices all the time, but they are not asking the right question! The REAL question is what are the speek limits????

well speed limits vary based on the location, and are closely monitored by radars and highway patrols.
however, there are MANY highways with speed limits of 160KM/h (100Mph) and beyond (certain parts of the Dubai/Alain highway which connects the two cities)
my daily route to work (at Dubai Internet City) goes through Shk.Zayed Road.. speed limit there is 140KMH (87mph) and radars are setup about 3 miles apart on the 5 lane highway :S
an alternative route is Emirates Road (E-11) which also has a 140KMh/87mph speed limit, but it has much less radars and traffic..
most stationary radars found in Dubai operate on K and Ka bands
however there are mobile units which are temporarily setup on tripods, or hidden in the backside of unmarked tinted vehicles.. i'm still to figure out which band these operate on :S
Sheikh Zayed Road
Emirates Road (E-11)
Dubai Internet City
Dubai Internet City and the Palm Island
EDIT: switched embedded images to links
EDIT: not sure why the direct image links didn't work, though they work for me.. anyway.. these should do
