I ordered a C&L intake with a SCT tuner from Lidio and he said has tunes for 87 and 93 he said he will send me both. He said people here in California have used the 93 tune using 91 octane gas and have been fine, but told me to swhich to the 87 tune if i starts pinging or knocking. Has anyone here in california tried it?

You could always take out a little timing on the 93 tune... But I'm no expert on the subject.

I’m in Kansas and not California but we don’t have 93 octane available in my area and I run 91 octane on a 93 octane tune and don’t seam to have any problems with pinging. Now when I know I’m going to be out playing around I just add some 104 Black octane boost to the car. Haven’t experienced any problems yet so I guess I’ll keep doing it.

I live in socal and just recently put on the C&L with the pred 93 tune. I talked to the a guy at C&L and he said to just take one or two deg off the timming and it would be fine. So I took 2 off and have had no issues at all. Car runs great. It might be a hair on the lean side but nothing to fret over. In the future after I get some more parts I will do a custom dyno tune. I have had nothing but fun with my 93 tune and using 91. I wouldnt worry if I were you cause you have the other tune if something didnt work quite right. Have fun.

you might as well just run the 91 octane tune if ya only have access to 91 octane gasoline.

The difference in the 91 and 93 tune is the advancement in timing. If you do what people on here are suggesting and just remove a few degrees, youre turning in into a 91 octane tune.

Run a 91 octane tune, nothing else.

Thanks for your replys. I am new to tunning a car but since I already am getting a tune from Lidio is possibly to modify his tune and take one or two deg off the timming? Thanks agian

just tell him its a 93 octane tune and you want it to be a 91 octane tune. He'll do the rest.

I have a 2 sec delay when I floor it. I have the 93 octane tune in my car and reduced 2 degrees of timing to all the RPM's because i only have acess to 91 here in California. and changed the max RPM in neutral too 5000. I dont have they delay if I dont floor it. Any ideas what might be going on?

I have no idea what you are asking...

What transmission do you have for starters? We need more details if you can provide them

I have a Automatic. Everything else is stock.

I havnt really had time to test drive it fully. But when i was coming home i floored it when i was going bout 10mph and i got a 2 sec delay until i got the full power. if i just tap da accelerator then I dont get the hesitation. Is there something wrong with the tune thats producing the delay. Any ideas?

What gear were you in at the 10mph mark? What you could be describing is kickdown and yes, there is a delay. Most of that delay can be removed by fooling with the tune. You may want to speak to your tuner about this.

Thumbs up

I live in AL where the 93 octane is available, but with my C&L 93 tune, I have been running Amoco 93 with a bottle of 3 point octane boost. This really seems to work the best. The bottle of boost is getting expensive though. I have been told that I can mix 1 quart of Toluene to 15 gallon of gas to get from 95-96 octane. Has anyone ever heard of this and would it damage anything?

Hey Sal,
I can tell you from experience that I had the same issues with my auto. I 1st ran the Diablo Predator C&L 93 tune for a couple of months and while it helped with the throttle lag if still existed. I swapped tuners in Nov. and went with Lidio's tune from Alternate Automotive his tune for the auto trans is awesome. Great in every respect. Throttle responce is cable like, I swear!!!
