I just got my car back from the shop and they are PERFECT! I took the install sheet that Dustin emailed to me and they called the Ford service hotline and got it right. The orginial quote was for 4 hours at $75 per hour so $300. The shop spent approximate 8 hours on the car and the price was still the same. I gave the owner (small shop) a $100 tip.

BTW Robert (the Owner) said bring it back in 500 miles and he would change out the gear oil and not charge me for the labor!

That's good news Rich!! And a very nice gesture on your part as well with the tip. Kudos to you. I paid about $400 in labor for my install, so you're right there too. Now, go drive the crap outta of it!! hahah

I haven't gotten on it yet because I want to put a couple hundred miles on them first. I can tell you that I like these gears alot. It seems to be perfect for the 5 speed manual and instead of 3rd around town I'm in 4th so I don't see a downside to gas mileage. Also the rpm range is always in the 2100 range where there is no drone from the Borlas and 70 miles per hour looks to be about 2300 rpms where the Borlas are almost quiet. These 5 speed manual transmissions seem to have a fairly tall 5th gear and I actually like it better at 2300 rpms than the 2100 it ran at before.

I'm a mechanic and I don't make that kind of money

this place says they do Mustang gears for $299, although it also says rear discs cost extra so I'm not sure how much it would be for you '05 guys

I can tell you that the Mitchell automotive labor guide book calls for 4.4 hours of work to do a ring and pinion removal and replacement on an '86-'04 8.8 rear end... for whatever thats worth

Glad it all worked out for you. Too bad it took two trips but it's good to know your shop hung with the problem til it was taken care of properly. It's always nice to know you have a shop around that knows you, and that you can trust!

thanks for the link gray. do you know exactly what was wrong with your set up the 1st time? too much lash? in my situation the tech told me specifically he set mine up at .013" and later i found in another tech doc that it should be between .008 and .010
