I turned off Overdrive today and the only real difference I could pick up was the car would downshift more aggressively. Is there any other benefits of turning it off?
My guess would be that you do not have an hiney kicking tune in your car. If you did you would not be asking this question. Correct??

I would be willing to guess that you have more fun here on the forums with your postings that you have ever had driving your Stang. Like a street race but verbal. If you manage to **** someone off or start an argument you won the race.

I get my kicks blowing off the loud mouth sonnie boys with their caps on backwards or to the side, a fart can or loud pipes on the rear and a 2000 watt amp in the trunk and some bleached blond chick in the other seat. I do it with a 4:10 rear gear.
Almost but not quite as good as a climax!

Yes, so when you are in the city the transmission doesn't have to shift from 4th to 5th all the time. This is when you are going about 40ish mph. This constant up/downshift motion is not good longterm, so turning it off when you won't be going over 45 is good practice.

What's the change in the RPMs say going 75 or 80 on the highway? With stock gears is at about 2000-2200, how much higher is it with the the 4.10s?

I'm at like 2800 rpm at 80 mph, I think. It's actually kinda hard for me to read the tach, the tick marks don't seem so precise.

With the stock tires, you're looking at around 2800rpm. Here's a chart for both the manual and auto trans (enter the gear ratio and tire diameter).

I also get my kicks by going wide open throttle around the city street in San Mateo. There is simply no other car around here that is driven on a daily basis that is as loud as mine. I love that sound.

4:10s just add to the howl when Im on the freeway. People are always curious about that sound as they drive by, they also try to make out the gauge cluster I have on the hood.

Kicks for being different.

What would be the recommended gear ratio if a Supercharger is hopefully in one's future? I'm probably going to get an ATI or Vortech, but would love to throw some 4.1s on in the meantime....as long as I wouldn't have to pull them off in 6-12 months.

4.10 are the limit with power adders and some would say its too much. Theres always going to a larger tire for the strip if you get close to taching out.

Well, I'm going to find out in a few weeks, when my blower goes on. IMO, the 4.10s will be fine... especially since I have an automatic. I need help on the launch the most. With big bottom end torque from a twin screw blower and 4.10s, I suspect my 60' times will drop nicely.

I really want 4.10's but I'm going off to college next year and I'm afraid it will be to much gear for such a long trip. I don't want to put alot of hurtin' on my pony driving all the way to Florida, even to Arizona if I end up there.

I just made a 2000-mile journey in my Q driving from Florida to Kansas and it has 4.10 gears I would not have it any other way. We averaged 24 mpg and that was with the cruise set at 80 mph most of the time. This is one of the best seat of the pants mods you can make. Oh yea, passing gear is here now when you mash on the loud pedal even without down shifting the 5-speed at those speeds.

I would think the 4.1s would work really nicely with a Centrifugal Sc based on each Mods strengths and weaknesses. The 4.1s would come in handy until around 2900 rpm when the boost builds up on the SC. As I drive the Mustang in Maine, more instant on torque and hp is NOT a good thing in the winter....unless I wanted to make the slowest, most expensive snow plow in history.

Average 24mpg? That is good! I was worried that in highway it was going to drop at 21 or something like that.

Awesome news, Thanks!

I've been browsing this thread and there is a lot of good info. My only concern is traction. I will most likely need DR's or slicks at the track to properly lauch with 4.10 gears. How is traction on the street though? Spin thru first?
