3 Tunes, Daily Driver, Which ones?

I'm going to be ordering the JLT II Cold Air Kit and SCT II kit from Doug because he's a great guy and you all are very enthusiastic about his product.

I pm'd him and he said that the three tunes I should get are

-87 Peformance
-91 Performance
-91 Torque

Everyone, keep in mind that the fuel available in Southern Cali is 87,89, and 91, no higher octane. Also keep in mind that no matter what you all say, I want to have an 87 tune on hand just in case.

I would go completely with Doug's suggestions but then I read a thread where everyone said the race tune is the best, so I'm a little confused on which ones to get. So which 3 should I get considering I spend time on the freeway and on the street and still want pretty good mileage but for the car to be more fun?

Thanks.

Get the 91Race and drop the 91P. Since getting my tunes from Doug I've tried all his tunes out and my favorite by far is the 91Race. I live in Cali and my car is daily driver. I been using the 91Race tune for over a month now with no problems.

I know most everyone on here is going to say the Race tune is the best and it probably is, and I'm sure its ok for a daily driver. However I think you should go with Doug's suggestions I did and I'm really happy with my 93 torque. I'd suggest taking his advice and getting the tunes then trying each one out and see which feels best for you on your daily rounds. You can always purchase the race later if you want to try it or go with leo's advice which is really good... didnt notice you had 2 performance tunes.

id suggest 87 torque, 91 torque, and 91 race. but if you'd like you can throw in 87 performance instead if 87 torque. IMO most people run the Torque over the performance tune for their daily drivers.. but a ton also use the Race daily too.. Just make sure you get a race tune!

If I remember correctly Doug doesn't offer a Torque tune for 87 grade fuel you have to atleast get 89 grade to get a Torque tune.
Available from Doug....(don't qoute me on this.)
87 Peformance
89 Performance/Torque
91 Peformance/Torque/Race

If I was ready to pull the trigger (which I'm getting close to doing), in YOUR case, I'd go with:

-87 Torque
-91 Torque
-91 Race

Put that's b/c I like the lower RPM, daily driver aspect of the Torque. And here in Texas, we have 87, 89, 93 gas, so I'd actually go with 87 TQ, 93 TQ, & 93R.

But, then again, I may end up w/ Brenspeeds "one tune per octane" approach, giving me all the torque, race, and performance all in one, and get a tune for each of the 3 octane levels available to me.

That's what I went with. 87 Perf, 91 Torq, 91 Race. Except mine were for 93 octane. That way you get a good sampling of all 3 different tunes including an 87 octane in case gas prices go crazy again.

No such thing as an 87 Torque. Doug only makes a performance tune for 87 grade fuel.

I am running the 93 race tune right now. It's fine for everyday driving. My other two tunes are the 87 performance(I like it) and 93 torque(haven't tried yet). I would suggest that you go with the 87 perf., 91 tq, and 91 race. If you get a chance, ask Doug what the difference is between the race and performance tunes...

That sounds good. I know others who've gone with that combination as well and are happy...

The 2 performance tunes I have seem to render the most gain in the higher rpm range, while the race tune I have is strong all thoughout the rpm range

For those of you that do have Doug's tunes, how is the idle quality compared to stock?? I love the way how smooth the idle is for stock...I'm hoping the tunes have the same smooth idle.

When I first start the car it seems to idle slightly higher than stock, however drops back down to normal once warm and is fine. It almost revs like a motorcycle now. Throttle response is awesome.

ive got all 3 tunes in 93 octane. the performance tune def doesnt have the low torque feel like the race tune does. the race tune is def the best but i just choose not to run it daily b/c i tend to have enough of a lead foot already with the torque tune. if i was going to the track w/o a doubt i'd go with the race tune.
