3.90 Gears Good or Bad

I would like to get a set of 3.90 gears for my car as I plan on getting a Kenne Bell and heard that 4.10's are way to big of a gear for a S/C. Motive has them but I heard they whine no matter how good you set them up. Does FRPP have any plans of making some? Does any one know if someone else makes them of better quailty than Motive?

I have heard that Pro 50 (the shifter people) made good gears.

well don_w has the kenne bell and 4.10's maybe you should pm him and ask his opinions and ask him some questions about it. Good luck
Its probably great for the strip, just a little too much for the street would be my guess, so do you want this more for strip or both, if both maybe go 3.73's to 3.90's Good luck. I have an auto and have the 373's plan on getting a supercharger after a bit, and was told this would be a good match for the auto's. Good luck

For a 5 Speed, with the KB you're going to be 100% happy!

My answer; good!

Yes, I have 4.10s, a KB and 28" tires, and I love the combo. But then again, I've been known to hit the dragstrip on a regular basis.

On the street, traction is seriously compromised if I get on it below 30-40mph. And honestly, I don't know how much better 3.90s would be (or even 3.73s for that matter). My street tires aren't in that great of shape, so that contributes to my traction woes as well. I'll be switching to 28" drag radials for the street in the next couple months. Those should help a lot.

BTW... If all I did was run this thing on 1/8-mi tracks (with no street duty), I'd have 4.88s in there.

Mostly street since my nearest track is about 2 hours away. But I will be doing some track time. I have the 3.55's and I dont think the 3.73's would make that much of a difference. But who knows they maybe alot better.

Which gears are you referring to? The 3.90's or the 4.10's

I like the 3.90's. They are wild!

For you it sounds like 3.73 is the way to go. They do make a nice difference over the 3.55's. However depending on how much you track, 3.90s or 4.10s. There are folks on here who street drive 3.73's and the consensus loves them.

Would you happen to know if FRPP will ever bring out the 3.90's. I prefer to get them but if not what brand do you recommed that already make the 3.90's.

I know a guy who has Motive gears in his Mach 1 and they do not whine at all...Im getting my 390s installed this weekend and Ill let you know how it turns out

If they end up whining a whole lot, thats just gunna be another excuse to get more exhaust mods to drown the whine out

I had 3.90's from Pro 5.0 originally installed. My installer had "problems" with the install. I ended up going with the 4.10's and couldn't be happier.

The 3.90 gears I don't mind the motive gears, but I like the Strange gears just a little bit more.

Maybe there is a reason that Ford Racing doesn't make 3:90 gears for our cars?

As long as you go with a well known, name brand gear, then 99% of the time you'll have no problems with whining..... its the INSTALL that causes the whining MOST of the time.

Would 3:73's or 4:10's be better for a manual car?
