3.73 over 4.10...Lidio recommends?

I think I read on more than a few posts that Lidio at Alternative Auto has convinced guys that were thinking about getting 4.10s to get 3.73 gears. Is this true? And what was his reasoning?

Monolith 10/13/06 03:49 PM

amyb from Shelby also mentioned in a post that they had a 4.10 around and that she preferred the 3.73. (Shelby GTs will have 3.73's).

Doug@C&L 10/13/06 05:05 PM

If you have an auto go with 3:55 or 3:73's, the 4.10's dont work well with our 2-3 gearing. I know, I had them in my car and it was bad at WOT.

GRAYPNY 10/13/06 06:52 PM

I think the perfect gear for the 5 speed manual would be a 3:90!

SONICBOOST 10/13/06 07:12 PM

What do our car's come with 3:55?

tw0scoops123 10/13/06 07:38 PM

3.55 manual, and 3.31 auto I think.

Mine is a manual so I was thinkin' 3.73 maybe. I do drive 70 miles a day for commuting. But I need another performance mod besides the intake and tune. I can't do the exhaust, cuz I have it just loud enough.

HiRoller 10/13/06 07:42 PM

I got the 4.10's after Lidio's tune. He wouldn't help me once I put in the 4.10's.....because "he didn't like 4.10 gears" .... thanks to DOUG I'm fine now.... I luv the 4.10's....

thats kinda....a good way to lose business i geuss

tw0scoops123 10/14/06 08:32 AM

Why doesn't he like the 4.10s? Just cuz they don't work well with his tune?

Yeahn now that's one thing I dont do. I give suggestions and recommendations, Not Rules. This is your car and you can do as you like with it. I'll support you if you put 2.73's back in it. :screwy: :rofl2:

Sonic Thunder 10/14/06 09:19 AM

Does anybody have the 3.90's and do you like them???

68wanabe 10/15/06 04:03 AM

I have 4.10's and Doug's torque tunes and I love it. I can break the tires loose in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. The car is awesome!

tw0scoops123 10/15/06 08:21 AM

I don't wanna be able to break the tires loose. Just slows me down. Should I go with the 3.73s then?

spyder7724 10/15/06 07:59 PM

i took the 3.73's out and went to 4.30's and picked up .15 and 3-4 mph!!! heck once i get the tune adjusted for my converter i may step down again. i don't drive much on the street but the 4.30's are fine cruise 70mph at 2600rpms. i'm thinking of 5.14 or 4.88 depends on what size tire i get next. if i go with a radial slick 9x30 i may go 5.14 or higher(numerically). the steepest gear i've found is 6.14!!!!yahoo 1/8 mile gears:metal:

Don't forget, he's got an auto with CAI and Doug's 93 octane torque tune and a couple other bolt-ons! I don't think by "breaking loose" he means "out-of-control never-ending tire spinning", or does he? You already have 3.55's so 3.73 isn't that much of a change, but maybe that's all you want. There's also 3.90s to consider, just not from FRPP.
The general consensus (but not the rule) seems to be 4.10's with a normally aspirated 5 spd is optimal, and 3.90 or 3.73 with a power adder; for automatics, 3.90 or 3.73 for NA and 3.73 (or even 3.55's) with a power adder.

I know it's not much of a change, but I don't want to go too far to the point where I'm dreading my commute.

The 3.73 is perfect for the inbetweener of drag and highway. If you don't do a lot of highway driving then the 4.10 is better for the drags and won't totally kill you on the street....If your not really going to race at the strip, go with the 3.73's and you will be totally happy. The 3.73 is probably the best of both worlds for the current stang.

Keystone 10/16/06 11:02 AM

Some very stange posts here, which do not agree with my experiences. I talked to him (Lidio) a little over a year ago and here's what he told me regarding the 5 speed manual cars:

1) 3.73 isn't enought of a difference from the 3.55s to be worth the expense of the swap.

2) the 3.90 gear sets are noisy and not a good choice for a street driven car.

3) 4.10s work very well with the 5 spd. manual gear ratios and that was his recommendation.

I went with the 4.10s and couldn't be happier.

Did he recommend them maybe to Manuals and not auto's?

What kind of driving do you do?

reply to: "1) 3.73 isn't enought of a difference from the 3.55s to be worth the expense of the swap."

What about the costs difference to the wear on the engine vs the performance?

I've been considering 2.73s for better gas mileage... :jester:
