3.73 gears? worth the money?

My 2007 Mustang GT/CS should arrive any day now. I probably wont mod it untill after winter. I'm just curious, is there really that much of a difference to swap out the 3.55 gears and put 3.73s in? I would get 4.10s but I do too much highway driving. Just wondering if its worth the money.

Thanks

I have the 373's on mine , I got them because it's what I had on my 90 GT and I liked them on it. But , to be honest , I wish I'd gone with the 410's now ...

Have you driven the 4.10s? How is day to day drivability on them?

I commute far too, but I don't want to waste money on a gearset if they don't have much improvement.

38 mile commute 1 way, avg spd 30-65mph.
Coming home I'm steady at around 65-70 the whole time.

No , I haven't driven a car with the 4.10's , so I can't say for sure. However , I'd like my car to be a little quicker on the low end and they'd help with that. My comute to work is only about 12 mi each way , so that wouldn't be a problem for me on a day to day basis. Most of the guy's on here that have them seem to like them and with the 5th gear being an overdrive don't seem to have a problem with the rpm's at highway speeds. The 3.73's are a good all around gear , but like I said I'd like it a little quicker on the low end ...

Just wish FRPP would make some 3.90s...I don't trust Motive with all the "whine" comments I hear.

In my 96GT I had prior to my 05, I went from 3.27's to 3.73's and was not impressed. Don't waste your money on 3.73's IMO - go with 4.10's and you won't regret it

Since u have a manual you can go 4.10's easily. I have an auto. trans and it was recommended that i go w/ 3.73's. I'm happy with them. If I had a manual transmission I would have gone 4.10's.

Waaaaahh. So hard to decide! I need to see more videos...I was searching on youtube and streetfire.net, but the only vids of people with 4.10s are older 01-04 GTs. The new GTs don't have any "in cabin" vids showing the RPM ranges at certain speeds.

I saw one vid of a guy showing he was at 2500 RPM at 75, cool vid, but again, and older mustang, not much use for our apps. One of you guys need to help a brotha out and get tapin'!! HAHA

I don't know if 4.10s would be economical for me. I actually live quite close to work, but I frequest my home city which is 50 miles away. I wonder for those who have a manual and have swapped for 3.73s, did you feel a difference and was it really worth the money and time for install.

If you are curious what the rpm will be with a new rear gear. You should be able to calculate your new rpm.

If the only thing you change is the rear gear, and tire size and everything else remains the same, use this equation.

New_rpm = Current_rpm x New_ratio / Current_ratio

example: If you now do 3248 rpm in 4th gear with 3.55 gears, then you will do 3751 rpm in 4th gear with 4.10 gears

3751 = 3248 * 4.10 / 3.55

I have had 4:10 gears for about 8000 miles now. My car isn't a daily driver but when I take it on the road to one of the restaurants that I oversee (100 miles round trip) I get about 22 mpg. Around town I get 18-19 mpg. Driving 70 on the higway is around 2600-2700 rpm's. I hope this helps and with a 5 speed manual trans 4:10's are IMO the perfect gear!

I'm going to put 3.73's on my 07. Mostly because it will be blown eventually.

I have 2 5.0's and an 07 GT w/18's. Always consider your tire overall diameter when picking gears. My 5.0 with 3.55's is effectively geared the same as an 07 GT with 4.10's.

That seems a bit much for 70 mph. Most of the rev calculators put you at 2400 RPMs for 70 mph

Would it be possible to run with STI's and Evo's with 3.73 gearing, or would you need 4.10s for those suckers?
