265/50 Tire Size

Has anyone tried a 265/50/18? I'm in the search for a wider tire and have decided due to an drag every once in a while that a little taller tire might be an advantage. I've looked at 275/45 -- but had some folks argue it is too wide for the 8 1/2 inch wheels. The 265/50 shows 8 1/2 as the ideal wheel width for it -- they are available -- if nowhere else in the Nitto 555's.

Anyone tried those --

What do you think????

Being your going to drag every once in a while, are these taller/wider tires going to be daily driven? 265/50/18 is a some what big tire, not to mention the larger overall diameter. Is your goal to stick with the 8.5in wheel, or would you consider bumping up to a 9in wheel. They say that 275's belong on a 9-9.5in wheel, but you might be able to get away with it on a 8.5in wheel but im not sure. In the end, its what makes you happy cause its your vehicle and you have to like it, but my opinion is that a 265/50/18 would look way tooooooo bulky.

Another look yields the possibility of 255/50/18s -- only in expensive Pirelli configurations however. Has anyone tried that approach?
