18in Tires....
18in Tires....
I just hit 30K on my 06 GT yesterday and with all the rain we've been getting in Jersey lately, I've noticed that my ***-end is getting a bit more squirrely in the rain (thank god for traction control
). I checked the Tire tread a couple weeks ago and its still pretty decent on the tires, so I'll prob rotate the tires to hold me over for while longer....which leads me to my two questions...how many miles have you been getting out of the 18 inch tires that come with the GT (I'm assuming about 40K miles) and are you replacing them with the same tire or going to a different brand? I've had good luck with Nitto and Kumho tires in the past on my cars and I wouldn't mind keeping the price of the replacement tires in the $100-150 range...

I've got the KDW2's also, at 255/45/18, but I don't get that much wet weather here. I did have to drive an hour or so through a rain storm a couple weeks ago, and they did fine. I've only got 15K on them so far, and they're holding up great.
I've used Falken Ziex 512's in the past (on a Tacoma S-Runner in Seattle) and they handled the wet and dry fantastically also. Falkens are usually decently priced as well.

18 inch tires
I have the 18" fanblade wheels on my '06 GT 'vert. I have 30K miles on them. They still have decent tread, but get a little "loose" in the rain. Since my car is a daily driver, and we get some winter weather here in Ohio, I will replace the (KDWS BFG's) about the first on November. I will replace with the same tire - I am very happy with them.
I was planning on changing them as one of my first mods to an all out performance summer tire (I have snows for the winter). But to be honest, I really like the tire.
I am not sure that I would buy it as a replacement, but it is definatly a **** good tire imo for the street.
I would guess 35-40K miles would be about right, if you rotate them and are not smoking them at every stoplight.
Tires to consider? Firestone firehawk wide oval, michelin pilot, goodyear F1 GS-D3, F1 supercar, etc etc.

Good selection of tires and wheels and tires here. I would only advise to be cautious with Kuhmo as they have a tendency to make certain tire models obsolete and if you need one tire (because of a nail or whatever), you end up having to buy 2 or 4 new ones... not good!

I've had really good experience with the Kumho Ecsta ASX. Tire Rack classifies it as an "Ultra High Performance All-Season" tire. Really good in heavy rains and doesn't seem to give much up (if anything) in the dry over some other "summer" performance tires. Comes in a 255/45ZR18, which fits the Mustang 18" stock wheel nicely and its easy on the budget at $139 ea
