Are 12\'s in the mix?

Well guys, I got the go from the wife for some DR\'s! I use to work with the guy at Discount Tire Co. and he has 2 17x9 Cobra R wheels and wants $50 each, so all I am waiting for is a price on the 275-40-17 ET Street Radials, they should be under $200. I think I might go with the 295-45-17 that MT just came out with, those should be about $210. These should squeese me in to the 12\'s, and after I get the SC I might see 11\'s.

You should hit 12s with those tires, and will hit 11s for sure if you go the FI route.

Would you recomend the 275\'s or the extra meat of the 295\'s? I might just do the 275\'s for now and burn them up so when I get FI I can get the 295\'s

I've seen half-dozen Brenspeed cars, all with FI (Saleen, Hellion, Paxton) just plain hook with the 275 ET Streets. I'd say they'd be plenty good enough...... I was going to do them, but since I have 4.10s I went with a 325/45 tire (28" tall) so that I'm not crossing the line in 4th at 6500+ rpm anymore.

The tires I\'m getting are not the ET Streets (the ones that look like slicks). They are the ET Street Radial, they are like drag radials and you can drive on the street with them.

They will perform just about as good....... some people say that they perform better than the ET Streets, atleast for NA cars. Either way, you can't go wrong...... and I would still stick with 275/40 size. Just my 2 cents.

Sweet! And the 275\'s are a bit cheaper too.

Well I didn't get the ET's, Discount tire said they couldn't get them, so I orderd the Nitto 555 DR's. They seem they would last longer on the street, and I will have to drive on them to and from the track. With a good smokey burnout to get them hot they should hook fine for my NA stang. After they wear out I will order the Mickey T's online when I am FI. Total of about $480 with wheels.

I run the Goodyear Eagle SS drag radials which look similar to the ones you mentioned.
Hook pretty darn good in the 275/40's On similar mods, good for 1.8 60's and 12.8's for me.

They are mounted, ballanced and ready to go. Pray for clear weather in Baytown Fri! If it is clear I will have them put them on and go strait to the track, if not I will just pick them up and hope for no rain on Sun.

COME ON 12\'S!!!!!!!

Yeah let us know how those Nittos do for you. Haven't heard a lot of good track stuff about them.

OK.
Back from the track. Got good stuff and need to improve stuff. 86*F (feels like 96*) and 59% humidity (felt like 100%). It just felt hot and nasty humid outside.
First the needs improvement:
1. Relearn how to launch the car......Bogged 3 out of 4 launches, the one I didn't bog I could smell burnt clutch all the way down the track.
2. Buy a larger diameter tire next time, I have to shift to 4th now. No more cruisen through the traps in 3rd.
3. Learn how to do a burnout in 2nd without killing it twice (yes...2X)
4. Wheel hop is now an issue.

Now the Positive:
1. Car launches like a bat out of HE!! Got my short time down from a 2.1 to a 1.98 and 1.965.
2. No more getting sideways on the 1-2 shift and breaking the tires loose on the 2-3 shift.
3. had one good burnout, but they hooked with a good burn or without a good burn.
4. Improved my ET from a 13.3 to a 13.144 at 105.48.

With cooler weather and more seat time maybe 12's. I want to hit 12's before I do any more modding. I also have video. After I get it in photobucket I will post it.

4500k Dump that clutch. for burnout, and launch
Should not need 4th gear. Assuming running 3.55's
Power shift like no tomorrow.
Buy some LCA's and maybe an Upper.

I didn't pay attention to the rpm that I launched at, but it was higher than what I normally did, but I will look for that next time.
Ya, I got 3.55, if I hold 3rd I cross the traps at 7000, and I don't like that. I had 2 13.1 runs one I stayed in 3rd the other I shifted to 4th, the 4th gear shift run ended up .02 faster run.
I did learn to powershift and it rocks! I feel like I can row gears like a pro! I is just practice, I have nobody around with me at the track to coach me along, but everytime I go things seem to get smoother. The LCAs and UCA are in the works for next year, I have reached my budget on the car for this year.

7000 rpms on a 275/40/17 (25.77")diameter w/ 3.55's would yield 114.52 mph
105.48 mph would approx be 6450 rpms, which is perfectly safe to cross the line at.

I have the same gears, same size tire and hit the traps at 107.5 in third. Faster than If I shifted to 4th.

I dont think you are doing anything wrong at all. Just trying to tell you that you should not need 4th gear. I know you can hit 12's!!

Yeah you shouldn't need 4th gear. Maybe you're shifting into 2nd and 3rd too early. We're running 28" tires on the '05 with 4.10's and it just barely makes it in 3rd. So with 3.55's and factory tire size, you should be fine.

Good to see the times come down a bit. I'm still working on bogging as well. UGh.
