12 hp gain from ignition booster?

Check out this ignition booster . Anyone got one of these and can verify the hp gains that are claimed? Seems worth the bucks for 12 hp increase. Any opinions??

Guys, this is just another rip-off made to sound great by using almost every buzz-word in the dictionary. :notnice: It says it cures miss-fire. OK, are you experiencing a miss-fire? If so, take it to your dealer, but don't waiste your money on crap like this.

That's why I said it sounds cool. Hopefully somebody will test it. Whenever I read "gains of UP TO 12 hp" I get suspicious.
In all honesty I'm not planning on adding any hp mods to my stang til the warranty is up. By that time all the bugs will be worked out of the good products on the market now and all of the BS mods will have been tested and shown to be BS.
But when the warranty is up ...

I think Boss Hog pretty much pointed this all out.
I took my Toyota S-Runner to a dyno day with some other Tacoma owners last year, and one guy had this and wanted to check it out. He did one pull with it on, and another with it off. He was testing something else also, but it really didn't seem that the plasma booster helped anything, and actually looked like it hurt a little. He never really had the chance to do a real test just with it on or off, because of the rest of us wanting a run on the dyno though.

Maybe they need to show us before and after dyno charts of the plasma booster instead of spark charts that means nothing to us. I am surprized that the RMP Outlet would sell B.S. assuming it really doesn't work. I have run MDS units on supercharged stangs that were a lot hotter spark then stock. Never heard it added power just could stand up under boost.

I never liked these aftermarket ignition systems, because they make claims that are REALLY stretched. I seriously doubt their claims of HP gains.
They show two waveforms. Both of which are on the primary side. They should show what is happening on the secondary side, that is where it is important. Most people don't understand these waveforms, but as someone who is very familiar with ignition waveforms (yes, I have a very exciting job
) I think they need a better explanation as what is going on with their device.

I really question the 10 sparks or whatever. Every aftermarket ignition (reputable) system I've seen that provides multiple sparks, only does so below 2000 rpm or so. A coil cannot charge/discharge that quick. Now, with coil on plug, they have 1/8 the load, but still, the factory coils are made to fire once.
I take that back, doesn't the Mustang and the F-150 engines have a multiple spark at idle? I heard that somewhere. Maybe it was a class I went too a while back for work. I believe it, since idle quality is so important in this day in age. I'm pretty sure GM is doing it, so I'm sure everybody else is too.
Can anyone confirm?

I agree that this sounds like bs but it sounds like a good idea overall. I guess not with a NA motor but with some sort of forced induction I think a form of ignition system could add some power. Maby not this much and anlmost deffinatly not this system, but I like the idea.
Well, lets say that you indeed gain 12HP. What are going to do with it? You would never be able to tell the difference. Now if it was 50HP or more then I would say "hey lets talk". But 12 HP?. Come on......

I like all those grounding kit's that were supposed to add HP. Was like $100.00+ for all these ground wires that grounded everything. I don't understand the logic behind that one at all. Or how they managed to sell them to people.
How about a aluminum can cut into a thing resembling turbine blades stuck inside your intake for 40% better fuel economy and 15% HP increase.
This ignition product atleast makes *some* sense, if you burn your fuel more completely you should get better performance, but it's probably closer to tossing a lit match into a raging inferno, hoping to make it hotter.

I rember these guys, they had an article in MM&FF about a year to two years ago, They put a timing adjuster and the plasma booster on a 2v PI motor and found 21 HP, which has less to do with the booster and more to do with Fords nitro-methane safe ignition tuning.
To be honest any ignition upgrade is of dubious value 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 999% of the time (okay I admit its still closer to 100% than this). Except in the most demanding applications. Especially with the advent of distributorless ignitions and coil on plug ignitions.
Unless your building an engine from the ground up or its a pure racing machine the stock stuff is more the adequate (speaking from a parts perspective and not the peanut butter burner ignition curve that is stock).

Thank you for the link, but I would like to offer a couple of comments on the "test report".
1. The 12 hp gain was on a supercharged engine running rich. Under those ideal circumstances, the stock ignition is marginal and an MSD type of ignition will help. If that is your situation then go for it.
2. To demonstrate gains on a N/A engine, looks like 5.0 Magazine had to resort to some kind of new math. In the third paragraph they come up with this little gem:
"Dan's GT gained 4 hp at the peak and 6 hp at 5,800 rpm, but the torque stayed the same across the board. "
The formula for hp is: hp = (rpm x torque) / 5252
I can't seam to figure our how you keep the same torque as before but you manage to gain horsepower. Maybe you or 5.0 Magazine can help me out.
