08GT 3.73 or 4.30's???

I want 4.10's but I have a set or 3.73's and a set of 4.30's ready to go in my 08 GT. I want the car low 12's if not high 11's all motor. My plans are as of now is cams (in the future but as soon as I get the money) and Gears. I have a JLT cold air and Bama chips tune and High flow cat x pipe and Pypes axle back. I'm going to buy the mid pipes to get the flat spot out of it later. I want the best gear I can. So should I go with 4.30's or 3.73's?

Are you planning on a supercharger or turbocharger in the future at all?

I don't know I would kind of like to stay N/A. I don't have the money to spend on this car for a blower. So I would like to make it as fast as I can all motor and maybe spray it later just because I have a bunch of nitrous kits laying around the House. So all motor and if I do get the money to go blower I can change the gears out later. I would like to know the best gears for N/A.

Just checking because if I knew I was going FI, I would never use the 4.30's. Is it a daily driver? 4.30's might be a bit much for DD. I've got the 4.10's and that would be as far as I'm willing to go. I would have actually done 3.73's if I'd known how bad I would want to put a blower on this car.

When I first got the car , I put 3.73's in because that's what I had in my 90 and like them. However , these cars don't have the same low end torque it did and I wished I had gone with the 4.10's. Then when I got my S/C , the low end torque was no longer a problem and I was glad I had 3.73's ...

3.73 have been the best balanced gears I've had. Very quick off starts and moderate RPMs at cruising speeds.

It is a DD but I drive about 10 miles to work all back roads and 10 miles back again all back roads. Basicly I want to be able to jump on the 400 hp GTO's and stuff and out run them all motor.

Auto or manual trans? One of Brenspeed's first shop cars several years ago was a manual trans and NA and with 4.30 gears- the friggin' thing would chirp the tires going into 4th. I have 4.10s in my manual trans and love them, although they are a tad low now with a Saleen twinscrew; I would probably do 3.73s if I could do it over again. BUT, 4.10s when I was N/A was great too.

As you're leaning toward staying N/A, go with the 4.30's. However, if you're shooting for low 12's or high 11's, 4.30's may force you into 5th gear at the dragstrip if you have an automatic. My 07 automatic has 4.10's with the factory tires and I'm at redline (6,400 rpm's in my car after custom tune) at 114 mph in 4th gear. That barely leaves me any cushion (I should be trapping at 111-112 mph with the supercharger that was recently installed). If you have a manual trans, there won't be as much slippage and you can likely go 120 mph in 4th gear, which is plenty for a car pulling high 11's in the 1/4 mile.

So, 4.10's would be ideal for you (as they are for many of us). 4.30's would be OK if you go with a taller tire for the dragstrip. 3.73's would be a good gear if you build a combination that makes lots of torque (so you won't need the extra torque multiplication that steeper gears give you).

Hello guys. What about the new 390 gears they have out? Seems to be a good choice if you plan to stay NA and if a SC is on the wishlist.

The 3:90 gears are Motive and most people don't have much luck with the Motive's not whinning. I had 4:10's with my 5 speed manual and felt that 1st gear was sort of useless.

I would like the 3.90s but since motive is the only one I can find that makes them, I plan on 4.10s. I don't think 3.73s are enough of a change from 3.55s to justify the money. Is everyone going with ford racing gears when they upgrade?

Yes, FRPP 4.10's in my car. I considered no other option. Had FRPP gears in 4 of my cars now, and they are always quiet and durable.

Hi,
I'm new to this forum, but certainly not Stangs...

You say you want a daily driver, I vote for 3:73. As a general guide this should raise your RPM about 500 above stock at highway speeds. A 4:10 will raise RPM 800-1000 depending on the complete set up of your car (not good for highspeed long hauls). I have a 2007 GT, kennebell S/C, long tube headers, short throw shifter, 3:73's and to much more to list. The car pushes 550 RWHP and I've raced the "New" Ferrari 430, Porsche 911 Turbo, and numerous other "Fools" with the "New" 2008 Chev Impala SS crap, mercedes 55 & 63's. There's nothing more satisfying than watching a guy in a Ferrari in your review mirror, except for maybe a guy in his Turbo porsche wondering why he can't loose you!! My car is a daily driver, city & highway, because I can't afford another car now

To stay N/A, I say 3:73's, A TRUE Coldair intake (drawing from outside the engine compartment), performance tune, high octane fuel (not an aftermarket octane booster), headers, exhaust mods and handling kit if you are on your 10 mile run through winding roads. This will give you a marked increase at a reasonable price. The great thing about stangs is, they are only limited in possibilities by the size of your investment.

Thanks for the ideas. I still don't know. I want it fast and want it streetable. I may just wait and get 4.10's. My car has 3.31's stock. So I need gear bad. It is a 5 speed car.

I have used motive in other cars and liked them. No noise. Guess it may depend on who sets them up.

By 5 speed I assume you mean the manual trans (remember the new autos are 5 speed too)....... that being said, since its a manual trans do the 4.10s.

I would hold out save and Simply Supercharge it. I have Seen Many Start out on your Path and Then not be Satisfied with the Final Results. Then a Lot of the Money Spent Going the N/A Route went out the Window and they wind up going Supercharged Anyway. BTMO!
Below is My Gt/CS Supercharger Install. This Car is Gone Now I Have a Gt-500 But you might find it helpful!
