My son recently came home and told me he took the flowmasters off his mustang and was going to run straight pipes. Has anyone done this and is there any performance, warranty, or issues with this.

I'm not a big fan of this mod.

Should just make it louder. It's the same as putting SLP Loudmouths on, which are straight through, but with pretty tips on the ends. That might even be what he's thinking of getting.

Shouldn't do anything for the warranty, as for performance, it might or might not help a little, probably not noticable though.

won't pass inspection!

I ran my car with the mufflers off and I thought it sounded like crap and I liked the Flowmaster sound better.

I had flowmasters and took them off because I couldn't hear them and put on loudmouth's, which are straight pipes, and everything is perfect.

Thanks for the reply's, both of us have new 05 GT's, I'm more of the traditional type going for the retro look and he has different ideas.

The muffler sound with flowmasters was fine, I personally like the sound of the stock mufflers, but to each his own I guess.

He does a good job on his customization projects, taking the rear mufflers off was just a bit much in my opinion.

The thing I like most about TMS is how everyone is helpful with answers to your questions, in this case you have an old dinosaur who remembers his 1966 and a teenager, who purchased his first new car.

How old of a dinosaur? I'm 47 and if I thought I could get away with open headers on the street, I would do it!!

The LMs sound fantastic with the rest of the stock exhaust, BTW.

Well since we're throughing our ages around, I'm 53 and wonder if some of our younger tms members remember dumps on cars when you went out on a long stretch of county road and marked off a 1/4 mile.

I wonder how many of us going through mid-life crisis went out and jumped all over the purchase of these new Mustang GT's. I've spent a fortune on mods, keep mine covered and parked in the garage.

Also stay in the dog house...........

My Dad loved the sound of my SLP's after I installed them. He even took my car out while I was asleep, I sleep in pretty late on the weekends. Honestly I think it reminded him of his brand new '70 Camaro RS/SS he had when he was about my age. Axle back systems don't really noticably help performance, the best thing to shoot for is a desired sound. My buddy who had flows on his '06 is now selling them after he heard my car. His car wasn't even really loud in comparision. Warranty issues should be non-existent. If he knows when to step on it and when not to the police should leave him alone.

I'm 44. My 05 GT has a JLT CAI and SCT tune. I have stock exhaust for now, and am contemplating going with flowmasters. By the way, my first car, a 66 mustang coupe, is still in my garage (sleeping until restoration).

Im on the opposite end, have the flowmasters, but ordering JLT and SCT in the spring. No point in having it in the winter imo.

I'm 22, having my dad as a BIG muscle car fan and owning 2 fairly good 60's camaro's back in the day, ever since I bought this 05 Mustang, he's loved it! Even after I put of the Flowmasters, i still to this day, catch him take out my Mustang occassional sat. & sun. mornings when I sleep in, i wake up hearing the rumble of the flowmasters when its in the garage and I hear him floor it up the street, puts a smile on my face to hear it but Im sure it puts a bigger smile on his face when he punches it. Gotta love them Flowmasters!

Not sure about the states but here it is illegal to run straight pipes. Sure I did it and never had a problem, but a buddy of mine is a cop. If the car sounds too loud he pulls it over. No mufflers = instant ticket.

My step dad is a california highway patrol officer and my mom is a deputy sheriff and they both love my slp loudmouth's, when I come home from work I alway's find my car gone. It kind of pisses me off sometimes but hey, as long as i'm not paying for it, everything is all good! It is illegal in california to have no muffler's, my step dad gave me s??t when I first installed them!

LOL... That was for less than 1/2-hour on a Sunday afternoon. No way I could do that on a daily driver.

I installed my flowmasters last night, and really like the improvement I've heard so far. They are a little quieter when cruising (I almost never get to do highway speeds around here) but when I step on the pedal, they are definitely louder than stock. And, as was said before, they sound great in a parking garage. Had to go out at lunch just to check that out.

I weighed both the flowmasters and the stock mufflers as I was doing it, and according to my not very accurate bathroom scale, the flowmasters are about half a pound heavier than the stock mufflers. I did however, lose weight in the deal. I've had a hidden-hitch on the car since July, when I moved to Las Vegas, and the flowmasters wouldn't fit with it in place. So, I had to take it off, and lost 18 lbs that way. But if I ever need to put that back on, I'll have to go back to stock (at least for a little while).

Love how they sound though, and the pipes look much better sticking out the back.
