'05 GT or '67 Fastback?

Sorry Mods if this is in the wrong place.

The '05 is running perfectly fine, but anyone can go buy one at the dealership easy enough. The '67 Fastback is getting more and more difficult and expensive to come across, but I have one sitting in the barn wasting away. So why would I dump thousands of dollars worth of expensive mods into a perfectly good car as is, rather than make drivable again a classic?

Fix up the 67 Stang and mod the 05 later.
They are getting harder to find and are great rides.

I would like to see the results of this poll myself. I am in the same type of situation with a 65 convertible 6 cylinder car that is driveable but only partially done vs the 05 GT convertible I would love to mod the you know what out of.

I'll be watching this one.

So much to buy and only so much $$$.

Build the 05.The newness is wearing off and they are going to flood the market with 06,s.So to stand out you will need to mod it.Your older car is beatifull and an antique.I was nervous about tearing into my new 05, but now i am going to enjoy being the fastest 05/06 next year at my local track.(Just dont tell John or george)

It all depends on how much it will cost to make the '67 Fastback looking good again. I was in the same situation, sort of. I REALLY wanted to find a half-way decent '68 Fastback, to play with, and eventually make into a "Bullitt" car. Once I saw how much people were asking for cars that were NOT NICE (rustbuckets), and needed major TLC, it was really a no-brainer to order the '06 GT. The only thing with 67 and 68 Fastbacks, there getting harder to find, as they're all getting bought up by Unique Performance in Texas to make into "Eleanor" cars. For how much it may cost to restore the Fastback, you may be suprised. Floors alone (if they need to be replaced) can pe pricey enough, and then you have the interior, etc. My heart says to go fix up the '67, but for a few thousand $$, you can REALLY make a new GT unique. Tough call. Let us know how you make out.

Two running ponies are better than one.

Let the twins get a job and pay their own way... hehe

I voted for the '05. I seriously debated getting a 69 Mach 1 and fixing it up instead of modding my 05. But, after considering a lot of issues, I basically decided that I wanted an 11-sec daily ride, and the 69 could never be that. It certainly could be built to go 11s (or better), but it wouldn't be a dependable daily driver and I don't even know if I could find a supply of high octane gas for it. It would only be a weekend warrior and a toy. Not a commuter.

So, for now, the 69 is on hold... but someday, it will get done.

I saw about the same thing...wanted to get a 66 or 67 era fastback. Youch...sticker shock! For a bit more money than it would have cost for a decent 66/67 or the money to fix one up, I got my 05 GT. What I'm saying is...if you already have a 67 fastback - get that thing in shape. There'll be 05+ Stangs out there for awhile.

Makes me wonder how much our 65 vert, original with matching numbers, 4barrel, almost all the options would be. Given, it needs a LOT of work as it isn't in running shape.

Also have a 65 fastback, matching numbers, rolling chassis with engine right now, desert gold, pony interior, etc.. All the parts in boxes, was reminded as we were cleaning the house and just pulled boxes and boxes of resto carpet, interior pieces, etc etc for it.. Ah...projects that never got finished.

Before buying my 06 GT I thought about instead getting another 67/68. People were asking outrageous prices for them so instead I got the new one. If I had a 67 fastback just sitting around, I'd be restoring that baby!!! You should definitely fix her up instead of getting a new one.

I went through the same deal you did. '69 Mach I or 2005 Mustang GT. The old cars are a lot of work unless you are going to do a restomod. Rotisserie restoration is the only way to go if you buy the '67 and want to keep it for a long time. I personally inspected at least 13 '69 Machs and found all of them smelling horrible and the internal rust of the rails was unbelievable. If you don't have a good metal shop ready to help, it could be a tough deal. In addition it could be years before you get the '67 in the shape you want. The '05 is new tech...no smell of gas/oil. Mostly no leaks like the old vintage and the performance is better than most vintage Mustangs. Do you want to ride now or later?....and in what fashion? Are you nostalgic? Did you grow up during the era of those cars? Go where your passion is...you'll be happier.
