Does anyone know if there is a reserve in the gas tank. Just want to be sure.

Thanks

Probably. But I think the more important question is why do you want to risk running out of gas and also suck water and sediment into your engine??

Mine was on 0 miles about a 1/4 mile from the gas station. Don't know if there is a reserve though. I guess 0.75 miles to empty still shows up as zero.

I went as far as 10 miles past zero miles to empty but I had a 5 gallon can of race gas with me and was trying to empty the tank. It never did run out.

I've had mine down past 0 miles before and it took 15.6 gallons to refill the tank. I know because I keep a log.

BTW, Do we have 16 gallon tanks?

I have driven on 0 but only for about a mile. From what I understand, and see above, 0 means you have over a half gallon left. In my STI, the fuel light would flash at 2.3 gallons. Really quite pesky.

This reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Kramer takes a test drive with a salesman and they try to see how far they can drive on "empty".

The low fuel light comes on in my F150 with about 4 gallons left in the 25 gal tank... now that is annoying!!

no 0 is not 0, you still have about 15 miles to go, I have found that out myself. Good luck and yes this has been replicated, ran to 0 several times and not ran out, and pushed it a bit further good luck

Personally, I don't think it's a good idea to go that low. Your fuel pump may not like it.

i never let the car get below 1/4 tank. bad experiences... more than just a fuel pump/filter problem

Why is that annoying???

Usually the low level light comes on in ANY vehicle when there is about 50 miles left (so that you can get somewhere to get gas).

On an F150, that would be with 4 gallons left (about 15 mpg).

So, it's all relative. It has more to do with driving distance than a level.

Hot temps and low fuel level equals premature pump failure.. In hot temps you should always keep over 1/2 a tank when driving long distances or driving the car hard. The fuel cools the pumps.

my tl had about 3 gals left after it hit empty. I guess they like to keep the pump covered with gas all the time.

The engineers are smart enough to add a "safety factor" for folks that might not be diligent about paying attention to their gauges. I would say the proof is in the pudding with NJ3s post indicating that there was actually about a 1/2 gallon left in the tank. You also need to remember that fuel level guages aren't the most accurate due to the shape and configuration of the tanks. As mentioned your best bet is to plan ahead and not let it get too low.
