Good video and surely not dissing on the supras, but they are runing 23 pounds of boost where as the Cobra, most likely still running stock boost wich is like 7 or 8, and getting beat. I sure hope so if you are running 23 plbs of boost. Get the Cobra around 16plbs or so and re race. Or is that a pretty stout Supra, not to familar with them?

Good video though.

not all imports are slow. at least the supra is rear wheel drive. according to the video the cobra had 490HP so it probably was running 16Lbs boost.

True, didnt think to do the math on the Cobra HP and boost. Would make more since now you point that out. And not at all saying Imports are slow, I have to watch myself on what to pick on now-a-days...darn NOS! I was thinking the Cobra was running stock boost but putting out that much HP, definitely not stock boost.

A 23psi supra (properly setup, modded and tuned mind you) should put out around 600rwhp or so. They are freeway killers. From a dig, with that big turbo, the cobra would have taken it up untill probably around 80-100mph, then the surpa is going to just haul butt past. From a roll, even a stock supra is a mean car. Give them respect.

Btw, there's a white supra in AL that we see at the track every now and then. Runs consistent low 10's... sounds like a jet engine taking off when he spools up.

Thats not a very realistic race.. A Supra is a truley devastating advisary..

Realistically, its not in the same class as any Mustang.. People normally dont even compare a Mustang to a Supra, unless the Mustang is bigtime strokin and blown.. Its a conversation you just dont have, unless you have a 10 sec or better Stang, Cobra, GT or whatever..

Put it this way, the Supra is most likely one of the best Japanese cars of all time.. To this day!

@Scothew

I know a Japanese guy who lives in the San Francisco Area who owns a White Supra, with a really big turbo.. His car sounds so ridiculous, that he has to put silencers on the exhaust tips.. With the Silencers removed, it sounds just as you describe, a 747! The tire patch in the back is so wide, it looks insane.. His brother has one exactly like it.. Just charcol grey.. Laptop computers built into the console.. Its really overboard..

I never really knew how stout the supras were, especailly with that much boost. I knew they were not to be joked around with...tis why I never mess with any even if it just has bolt-ons. Out of the many Import cars, the Supra is probably my favorit. If I was given a Supra, you sure wouldnt see me complain.

I take back my thread title and change it to "One Mean Supra!"

PS but all this is ok, cause the same Supra got spanked by a WS6 in another video. Will try and find.

Found it. This time the Supra is running 21psi...not sure how much difference in HP 2psi will give. Good video though. And I thought the Supra was quick.

There was a supra I saw at the local track and he was running high 14's and low 15's. It looked stock to me. Would those times be normal for a stock supra?

I can appreciate the power the car is putting out, just not the car itself :P

Anywho, I think MSP has a good point. Its not a very realistic race to say the least. To me its kind of like putting a highly modded Cobra up against a slightly modded Corvette and saying "Hey, look what I raced and one against!" Thats just my opinion on that. I think for a true race between the two you would have to do a set amount of mods at a certain price limit and then compare.

Stock for stock, an 03 Cobra would win the race hands down against a 1997 Supra (last year made produced), but thats a whole other topic.

As for the meanest import, I'm gonna have to say that the Subaru WRX STi would be my pick. There is a whole heck of a lot of potential under that hood. I just wish the new design that is coming out wasn't so gosh-darned ugly.

Yes, every Mustang owners worst nightmare! LOL! To be rolled up on by a Turbo Charged Trans AM, when not really prepared for it! Can anyone Say PowerHouse411- report to the staging area! Nice find on these videos man..

It is good to know that MikeBowen @ Powerhouse has made sure that 05GT owners wont have these types of problems.. 05+ GT owners have a Single Turbo kit being prepared which has 10's written all over it.. So while these videos make all of us cringe and bite our lips, you 05GT owners if you go with PowerHouses setup will never suffer this type of azz woopin at the hands of a TransAM or a Supra! So its alright, you can breath now!!

Did you ever notice they never have a video of STOCK Supra going up against a STOCK Blown Cobra? They always have these Highly modified Supras racing stock Cobras or ones with just a few bolt ons. There's only videos of imports beating domestics when they're sure they're going to win.

I think a Cobra with 16lbs of boost would make a goodly amount more power than 490 because PearBear's '03 made 400hp with just an air filter and a cat-back...so don't you think another 8psi would send it into the 500's?

I'm pretty sure there was a non-turbo Supra you could be that just had the dohc V6 and around 220hp. You might have seen one of those with a few small mods or a turbo Supra with a bad driver.

Yes there was a naturally aspirated Supra built but all Supra's had inline 6's, not V-6s

I'd like an inline 8! That'd be fun! But! I have a pretty good idea what could beat that blown supra!

Say, lets take a 2000 GT, throw in a 365hp Cobra R engine with the tranny as well. A few bolt ons, headers, throltle body and spacer, and why not, throw 21psi of NOS in the mix... odds are that'll put a damper in that blown supra's ego...

OR, take a Dodge Viper and add some NOS, game over...

Cobra R had 385hp. 21psi of NOS? What? How big of a shot are you talking about? Maybe you mean a 21psi blower, that'd probably do the trick.

Nitrous is measured in horsepower "shots" like 75, 100, 200hp(!). But to use the nitrous you have to have the bottle pressure at something like 900psi. (I think)

You guys shouldn't fear the supra so much. They are heavy and if I had a minor bolt-on notchback I wouldn't be a'skurred of running into a minor bolt-on poopra! (at a stoplight of course, not from a roll on the highway)
