PONY CAR
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pony_car
Even though the Barracuda was first, It was the Mustang that started it all. You youngsters really don't know what the "Good Old Day's were even about" It was the best times ever for people that loved fast cars, Drag racing, Hanging out, No &%^$% drugs, have a beer and just plain enjoy cars and life itself. Those days are gone but one thing is for sure. The Mustang started the "PONY CAR REVOLUTION" which is Now the Muscle car era.
Call them what you want, Muscle car or Pony car they are still one of the most fun unique cars made that a have an unbroken heritage that goes back to 1964.
This is my third one and it is the best ever.

A lot of the people on this Thread have been "Banned"
. In 1969 or 1970 i saw the 'only BOSS 429 i have ever seen' on the road in my town. I was 16 or 17 years old. A gray haired guy was driving it. It was the most beautiful Mustang i have ever seen. Friends of mine told me the guy who had it, blew up the engine and sold it to someone in another state a few months after i saw it
.

I love my '06. But I think the Ultimate (and rarest) of Mustangs were the 1965 A/FX Mustangs. Ford built 10 (maybe 11?) for the drag strip with go-fast units prepped by Holman-Moody (The people responsible for the 427 SOHC that NASCAR banned). Only seven SOHC motors were available so three of the cars were built with the 427 Wedge motor instead.
One car was converted to a '66 by Holman-Moody. Dyno Don Nicholson bought the car in '68 and converted it to Super Stock. In '69 competition was catching up, but Nicholson managed to shut down Sox and Martin's Hemi 'Cuda and at Elizabethtown, NJ, blasted through the traps in 9.89 seconds.
The A/FX Mustangs were wicked fast machines. They could lay down twin strips of rubber the entire 1320--trap speeds sometimes in excess of 140. (Drum brakes. Any question why there aren't many around today?)

One of the original funny cars....love those AWB Mustangs. I used to see Bill Lawton race this car in Englishtown, NJ. Tasca Ford in R.I. is still in business and still a prominent force in racing.
